1048 BOARD OF TRUSTEES [March 14 The total number of leaves recommended is twenty-four; twenty-nine were approved for the year 1940-1050. On motion of Mr. Fornof, these leaves were granted as recommended. RELEASE OF FUNDS FOR BUILDINGS A N D OTHER CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS (5) The Governor has approved the following release of funds from appropriations made to the University of Illinois for 1949-1951 for buildings and other capital improvements: Release No. 19 "For Permanent Improvements at Chicago Construction of Addition to Present Hospital $ 103 613" This is a partial release from an appropriation of $7,395,000. The Governor has previously released (Releases No. 8, 15, and 17) $6,176,895.18 from this appropriation. The funds now released are for the purchase and installation of X-ray equipment, as authorized by the Board on February 16, 1950. Release No. 20 "For Permanent Improvements at Urbana-Champaign Construction of Veterinary Science Unit $1 270 000" This is a partial release from an appropriation of $1,560,000. The Governor has previously released (Release No. 7) $40,000 for architectural and engineering services on the Veterinary Science Building. The funds now released are for the construction of the Veterinary Science Building, contracts for which were authorized by the Board on February 16, 1950. Release No. 21 "For Contingencies to Cover Expenditures for Purposes for which the Amount Appropriated in any Item Above Enumerated is, or becomes, Insufficient $ 97 790" This is a partial release (the third) from an appropriation of $550,000. It will supplement the appropriation for "Construction of Utility Distribution System and Remodeling of Existing Buildings" and will be used for the remodeling of the Department of Biological Chemistry in the Medical and Dental College Laboratories Building. Release No. 22 "For Contingencies to Cover Expenditures for Purposes for which the Amount Appropriated in any Item Above Enumerated is, or becomes, Insufficient $ 2 210" This is a partial release (the fourth) from an appropriation of $550,000. It is to supplement the appropriation for "Equipment for buildings at Urbana-Champaign and Chicago" and is to be used for movable equipment for the Department of Biological Chemistry in the College of Medicine. I recommend that these funds be appropriated for the purposes indicated. On motion of Mrs. Holt, these funds were appropriated as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Fornof, Mr. Herrick, Mrs. Holt, Dr. Meyer, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Hickman, Mr. Livingston, Mr. McLaughlin, Mr. Nickell, Mr. Stevenson. SPECIAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR NONRECURRING EXPENDITURES (6) The Committee on Nonrecurring Appropriations recommends assignments from the General Reserve Fund for the following purposes: 1. Collections of books and periodicals for the University Library $20 782 2. Publication of College of Fine and Applied Arts Bulletin 4 250 3. Speech and Hearing Clinic equipment for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences 3 23:
