I recommend that this budget be approved and that the President of the University be authorized to make such changes and adjustments as are necessary, including new appointments and acceptances of resignations as are recommended by the Board of Directors of the Athletic Association within the total estimated income. O n m o t i o n of M r . D a v i s , t h i s b u d g e t w a s a p p r o v e d a s r e c o m mended, and authority w a s given to the President as requested. APPOINTMENT OF DR. CHAUNCEY MCKINLEY LOUTTIT AS PROFESSOR OF PSYCHOLOGY AND DEAN OF THE GALESBURG UNDERGRADUATE DIVISION (5) In announcing the retirement of Dean Frederick R. Hamilton I wish to express appreciation of his faithful performance of the many arduous tasks associated with this unique undertaking. The Undergraduate Division at Galesburg has met every test; it is a branch of the University of which we may well be proud. I recommend the appointment of Chauncey McKinley Louttit, recently Dean of the Faculty at Sampson College, one of the Associated Colleges of Upper New York, as Professor of Psychology on indefinite tenure and Dean of the Galesburg Undergraduate Division for two years beginning September I, 1947, at an annual salary of $9,000. O n m o t i o n of M r . W i l l i a m s o n , t h i s a p p o i n t m e n t w a s m a d e a s recommended. SPECIAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR NONRECURRING EXPENDITURES (6) The Committee on Special Appropriations and Nonrecurring Expenditures recommends assignments from the General Reserve Fund for the following purposes: Remodeling Rooms 105 and 309 Gregory Hall for College of Education.. $ 7 850 Remodeling and equipping 606 South Mathews Avenue, Urbana, for use by the School of Music 5 000 Remodeling in Chicago Professional Colleges 28 675 Automobile for Chicago Nonacademic Personnel Office 1 500 Remodeling in Natural History Building 12 000 Improved lighting in Architecture Building 15 000 Temporary Research Laboratory for College of Veterinary Medicine... 80 000 Remodeling of Armory for Naval Science facilities 15 000 Temporary veterans' recreation building 40 000 Installation of decompression chamber 15 500 Remodeling in Smith Music Hall 8 700 Supplementary funds for addition to Agronomy Greenhouse 58 420 Total $287 645 I recommend that these appropriations be made. PURCHASE OF PROPERTIES AS SITE FOR WATER SURVEY BUILDING (7) On June 23, 1947, the Board authorized the purchase of properties fronting on the south side of Springfield Avenue between Wright and Sixth streets, Champaign, at an estimated cost of $75,000, as a site for the Water Survey Building. The purchase of two properties at 603 and 607 East Springfield Avenue will provide an area of land 105 feet by 132 feet, which is sufficient for the first unit of the Water Survey Building.
