RELEASES OF FUNDS FROM STATE-WIDE PUBLIC WORKS PROJECTS APPROPRIATION (18) A report that Governor Dwight H. Green has authorized the release of funds from the appropriation made to the University of Illinois by the 64th General Assembly in the "Act making appropriations for a State-wide system of public works projects, including all ordinary and contingent expenses relating thereto," as follows: Release No. 243 "For construction of Chemical Laboratories and equipment $ 906 000" Amount released 951 180 T o be used as designated in the title for this item. Release No. 244 " F o r construction of Chemical Engineering Building and equipment. .$ Amount released T o be used as designated in the title for this item. 580 000" 553 900

Release No. 245 "For construction of students' residence halls and equipment $1 500 000" Amount cancelled 103 400 This is based on the action of the Board of Trustees of July 30 reviewing plans for providing emergency housing facilities and increasing the amount to be expended for temporary housing. The Governor has approved the cancellation of $103,400 from Item 3 of Release No. 221, "For construction of permanent students' residence halls . . . $356,275," leaving a balance of $252,875 approved for expenditure in Item 3 of the above-mentioned release. Release No. 246 "For construction of students' residence halls and equipment $1 500 000" Amount released 37 000 This is to be used to augment Item No. 1 in Release No. 221, "For remodeling West Hall of Stadium and the Ice Rink, and equipment, converting them into dormitories for men students . . . $120,000," making a total of $157,000 available for this project. Release No. 247 "For construction of students' residence halls and equipment $1 500 000" Amount released 66 400 This is to be used to augment Item No. 2 in Release No. 221, " F o r installation and equipment of temporary housing to be secured from the Federal Public Housing Authority . . . $459,600," making a total of $526,000 available for this project. I recommend that these funds be appropriated by the Board for the expenditures specified in the releases.

On motion of Dr. Meyer, these appropriations were made as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Fornof, Mrs. Grigsby, Mr. Livingston, Mr. McKelvey, Mr. McLaughlin, Dr. Meyer, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Davis, Mr. Green, Dr. Luken, Mr. Nickell.

RESOLUTION FOR SECURING EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES FOR VETERANS FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT (19) Public Law 697, approved by Congress on August 8, 1946, amended Title V of the Lanham Act to provide for assistance to educational institutions in relieving acute shortages of educational facilities required for persons who are being educated under the provisions of the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944. T h e law provides that the required assistance will be in the form of structures or facilities including lands, improvements, equipment, materials, or furnishings, and the disassembling, transporting, and re-erecting of buildings. These buildings and facilities must be under the jurisdiction or control of any federal agency and no longer required by such agency. Administration of this part of the Lanham Act has been placed under the Federal W o r k s Administration.
