CONTRACT FOR INSTALLATION OF U N D E R G R O U N D STEAM SERVICE FOR PHYSICS RESEARCH LABORATORY (BETATRON BUILDING) (15) Bids were received on July 9, 1946, for the installation of underground steam service and return in woodlog for the Physics Research Laboratory (Betatron Building). Specifications were prepared by Sargent and Lundy, engineers for this work, who also reviewed the bids received, which were as follows: Robert Gordon, Inc., $18,892; Carson-Payson Company, $26,269. The lower bid is a firm bid without an escalation clause. T h e Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend acceptance of the bid from Robert Gordon, Inc. In order to expedite the work on this contract, the matter was submitted to the Executive Committee of the Board, which approved the award to the lower bidder as recommended. O n m o t i o n of M r . W i l l i a m s o n , t h i s a w a r d w a s a p p r o v e d . SPECIAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR NONRECURRING EXPENDITURES (16) The Committee on Special Appropriations and Nonrecurring Expenditures recommends assignments from the General Reserve Fund for the following purposes, these appropriations to be available until January I, 1947: Speech Clinic — Equipment for research and training for testing and demonstration of hearing aids $2 500 College of Commerce — Calculating machines for use in the statistics laboratory in the Economics Department 2 700 College of Veterinary Medicine — Remodeling of classroom (for instruction in gross anatomy until new Veterinary Building has been constructed). 3 000 Total .$8 200 I concur.

On motion of Mr. McKelvey, these appropriations were made as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Fornof, Mrs. Grigsby, Mr. Livingston, Mr. McKelvey, Mr. McLaughlin, Dr. Meyer, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Davis, Mr. Green, Dr. Luken, Mr. Nickell.

SPECIAL APPROPRIATIONS OF ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION APPROVED BY PRESIDENT TO J U N E 3 0 , 1 9 4 6 (17) In approving the Athletic Association budget for the previous year (Minutes, August 29, 1945, page 633), the Board of Trustees authorized the President to make changes and adjustments as recommended by the Association's Board of Directors within the total estimated income. Following is a statement of the adjustments thus made to June 30, 1946, not previously reported: Special Appropriations Summer personnel work for veterans $ 400 Additions to 1945-1946 Operating Budget Summer recreational program for intramural and recreation 1 000 Increase in travel budget for track I 200 Total $2 200 T h e following contracts were approved by the Executive Committee of the Athletic Association and emergency action was requested in order to complete the work prior to the opening of the football season. The Comptroller has approved these contracts: 1. Contract for the construction of a concrete driveway east of Memorial Stadium. Contract awarded to Mr. Lynne Meyer in the amount of $13,123.75. 2. Contract for the re-paving of the tennis courts east of Memorial Stadium. Contract awarded to the General Paving Company in the amount of $29,224. Contracts were awarded in both cases to the lowest bidder.

On motion of Mr. Williamson, these adjustments and awards were confirmed.
