ADDITION TO CONTRACT FOR SERVICE EXTENSIONS TO TEMPORARY CAFETERIA BUILDING (19) The Physical Plant Department has requested an increase of $2,350 in contract with A. S. Schulman Electric Company for new service connections to Temporary Cafeteria Building. The original contract (approved by the Board January 25, 1947) did not provide for such connections, since the requirements service connections were not known. They have now been determined and requested increase provides for them. Funds are available for this increase. The Comptroller recommends approval of this increase and I concur. O n m o t i o n of M r . W i l l i a m s o n , this increase w a s authorized recommended.

PURCHASE OF COAL FOR URBANA CAMPUS

(20) Bids have been requested on 38,000 tons of screenings coal for use at the Abbott Power Plant, Urbana-Champaign, delivery as required during the period from July I, 1947, to June 30, 1948. Invitations to bid on our specifications were submitted to 23 concerns and advertisements were run in Chicago papers. Only one bid was received, from the Bell & Zoller Coal Co. of Murdock, Illinois, for 8,000 tons at $2.90 f.o.b. mine, freight cost 85^, delivered price $3.75. Two additional quotations were received, not based on specifications (i.e., without allowing for price adjustments on the basis of quality of coal delivered): Taylor-English Coal Company (30,000 tons): F.o.b. Mine Freight Delivered Danville screenings $2.95 $ . 75 #3. 70 Danville mine-run 3 • 15 78 3-93 (Mine-run to be supplied when screenings are not available.) Lafayette Coal Company (5,000 tons): T Livingston screenings 300 • 55 4-55 Pana screenings 3.00 1.43 4.43 (Vendor reserves right to ship from either mine.) The above prices are based on miners' wages in effect at the time of the bids and are subject to any subsequent changes in such rates. The Director of Purchases, the Director of the Physical Plant, and the Comptroller recommend that contracts be awarded as follows: F.o.b. Approx. On motion of Mr. Williamson, these contracts were authorized as recommended, subject to constitutional provisions.

Invitations to bid were submitted to nine concerns.
