BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Meyer, Mr. Nickell; no, none; absent, Mr. Green, D r . Luken, Mr. McKelvey, Mr. Williamson. PURCHASE OF CLARK PROPERTY T h e Legal Counsel reviewed the negotiations by the University for the purchase of the following properties owned by Alice V. B. Clark: The North half (N 1 ^) of the East Eighty-five (E 85) feet of Lot Eleven (11) in W. M. Goodwin's Addition to Urbana in Champaign County, Illinois; The South half (SJ4) of the East Eighty-five (E 85) feet of Lot Eleven (11) in W. M. Goodwin's Addition to Urbana in Champaign County, Illinois. Mr. Chancy L. Finfrock, an Urbana attorney, is the Conservator of Alice V. B. Clark and of her estate. Negotiations, over a period of some months, for the acquisition of these properties, have been conducted with the Conservator. A committee, appointed by the County Court of Champaign County, appraised the two properties at $40,000. It is recommended that the Board of Trustees authorize an offer of $38,000 to the Conservator for both properties as set forth in the Proposal herewith submitted to the Board of Trustees. On motion of Mr. Davis, the Board approved this Proposal and authorized the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board to submit the same to the Conservator as its offer to buy the properties on the terms therein stated.

CASE OF OTIS TAYLOR

T h e Secretary reported that he had received the objections to the findings, conclusions of law, and recommendations of the H e a r i n g Committee in the case of Otis Taylor (Minutes, May 27, 1947, page 3 8 0 ) , had referred the objections to the Legal Counsel, and had received the answer of the Legal Counsel to the objections. Professor Britton discussed this matter, which was referred to the Committee on Civil Service and Employees for consideration and recommendation to be made to the Board at the next meeting.

INSTALLATION OF PRESIDENT STODDARD

D r . Meyer, for the Special Committee on the Installation of the President ( D r . Meyer, M r . Davis, M r . F o r n o f ) , presented the following report. The Chairman of the General Committee on the Installation of the President has submitted an estimate of $28,500 as the total cost of all the ceremonies. These include the professional conferences at the Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy, the convocation and functions at the Chicago Undergraduate Division (Navy Pier), the formal installation ceremony at Urbana, the symposium on higher education at Urbana, and the reception for visiting delegates and other official guests at Robert Allerton Park. The figure also includes the cost of the first edition of the Robert Allerton Park brochure which was distributed to the guests at the reception, and an estimate of $2,000 for the publication of the proceedings of the entire installation. The Board of Trustees made a preliminary appropriation of $10,000, so that a supplementary appropriation of $18,500 is necessary. On motion of Dr. Meyer, this appropriation was made, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Davis, Mr. Fornof, M r s . Holt, M r . Livingston, M r . McLaughlin, D r . Meyer, Mr. Nickell; no, none; absent, M r . Green, D r . Luken, Mr. McKelvey, Mr. Williamson.

W h e n the Board convened in open session, the following members were present: President Livingston, Mr. Fornof, M r s . Holt, Mr. M c L a u g h lin, D r . Meyer, Mr. Williamson. T h e same officers were present as during the executive session.
