On motion of Mr. Davis, the purchase of this land was authorized and authority given as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Davis, Mr. Fornof, Mrs. Holt, Mr. Livingston, Mr. McKelvey, Mr. McLaughlin, Mr. Nickell, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Green, Dr. Luken, Dr. Meyer.

ALLOTMENT OF FEDERAL FUNDS FOR PLANS FOR NEW BUILDINGS (15) Pursuant to Board authorization (Minutes, December 28, 1946, page 200), the Comptroller applied to the Federal Works Agency for funds for the preparation of plans and specifications for certain building projects approved by the Board of Trustees and included in the building appropriations requested for the biennium of 1947-1949. Advice has been received of the following allotment of funds: Staff apartments, Urbana $100 400 McKinley Hospital Addition, Urbana 16 400 Nurses Home, Chicago 56 000 Men's Residence Halls, Chicago 65 000 The regulations provide for an initial payment of 50 per cent of each allotment as soon as an acceptance has been signed. Further payments will be made to cover actual expenditures for preparation of plans and specifications. Whenever an appropriation is received for a project, the amount advanced is to be repaid to the Government from that appropriation. If no appropriation is secured and the project is not carried out, no repayment is required.

ALTERATIONS IN ILLINI UNION BOOKSTORE (16) The Physical Plant Department, under whose supervision the Illini Union Bookstore is operated, requests approval of the following alterations in the Illini Union Bookstore: ( a ) Convert present corridor into storage room and office space, and build a fireproof partition in present storage room. (b) Extend the Bookstore into area previously occupied by office to provide additional sales space. The estimated total cost of the work is $10,000, to be paid from available funds in the Illini Union Bookstore. The Physical Plant Department recommends that the work be done under the standing cost-plus contracts, separately recommended, as follows: C. A. Petry and Sons, for general work, estimated $8 982 R. A. Bland Electric Company, for electrical work 907 Approval of these changes and of the proposed contracts is requested.

On motion of Mr. Williamson, these recommendations were adopted.

CONTRACT FOR STRUCTURAL STEEL FOR POWER PLANT ADDITIONS (17) The following bids have been secured on fabrication of steel for the Power Plant Additions.
