PURCHASES RECOMMENDED (20) The Purchasing Agent has proposed and the Comptroller recommends the following purchases. Unless otherwise specified, the purchase in each case is recommended on the basis of lowest bid, ceiling price, or because the item is noncompetitive. I concur in the recommendations. 1. Radio equipment for police squad cars and fire truck, for the Physical Plant Department, from the Galvin Manufacturing Corporation, Chicago, at a cost of $2,365. 2. One Brown 12-point electronic strip chart potentiometer, one Brown precision indicating electronic potentiometer, two Brown cabinet panels, with ten banks of key switches, for the Department of Mechanical Engineering, from the Minneapolis-Honeywell Regulator Company, Peoria, at a cost of $1,82675 f.o.b. Philadelphia. 3. One Model B McCormick Deering tractor with battery starter and lights, one 16-inch power-lift plow, one 6-foot tandem power-lift disk, one two-row power-lift corn planter, one two-row power-lift corn cultivator, and one 6-foot mower, for the Department of Agronomy, from the Power Farm Implement Company, Champaign, at a cost of $1,468.80. 4. "Norelco" Geiger counter X-ray spectrometer accessories, for the Department of Chemistry, from the North American Philips Company, Inc., New York City, at a cost of $1,541 f.o.b. Mt. Vernon, New York. 5. One 44-inch Seybold motor-driven paper cutter, for the Print Shop, from the Harris-Seybold Company, Chicago, at a cost of $4,660 f.o.b. Dayton, Ohio.

On motion of Mr. McKelvey, these purchases were authorized as recommended.

PURCHASES AUTHORIZED (21) The following purchases were recommended by the Purchasing Agent and authorized by the Comptroller. Unless otherwise specified the purchases were made on the basis of lowest bids, ceiling prices, or because the items are noncompetitive. Emergency action was necessary to secure delivery in time to meet specific needs or because prices quoted were subject to immediate acceptance. 1. Twenty thousand test booklets for the 1946 edition of the American Council on Education Psychological Examination for High School Students, and 50,000 special machine scoring answer sheets for the above test for the State-wide Testing Program, for the High School Testing Bureau, from the American Council on Education, Washington, D. C , at a cost of $1,010.
