or the general curriculum. Students in the general curriculum are advised to distribute their work according to the College plan including foreign languages, humanities, social studies, and natural sciences. Students registered in other colleges are advised to follow a regular program in that college. Scholarship. A minimum scholarship average of 3.5 will be required for admission and for graduation. Requirements for Graduation. 120 hours exclusive of military training and physical education. In this 120 hours must be included eighteen hours of Library Science and a major and minor. The major will consist of twenty hours and the minor of sixteen hours, both chosen from the following list of subjects: Agriculture Geography and Geology Art and Architecture History Biology Journalism Business Administration Mathematics Chemistry Music Classics Philosophy Economics Physical Sciences Education Political Science Engineering Psychology English Sociology Foreign Languages P a r t of this work may be completed prior to admission to the Library School. The remainder of the curriculum may be elected from courses offered by other colleges and schools as approved by the student's adviser. Prescribed Subjects. Eighteen hours in Library Science, chosen from the following courses: Lib.Sci. 201, Library in the Social Order, 3 hours; Lib.Sci. 202, Use of Books and Libraries, 3 hours; Lib.Sci. 251, Organization and Operation of Libraries I, 3 hours; Lib.Sci. 252, Organization and Operation of Libraries II, 3 h o u r s ; Lib.Sci. 301, Humanistic and Social Science Literature, 3 hours; Lib.Sci. 302, Literature of Science and Technology, 3 hours; Lib.Sci. 303, Library Materials for Children, 3 h o u r s ; Lib.Sci. 304, Library Materials for Adolescents, 3 hours. Electives. The remainder of the curriculum may be elected from courses offered by other colleges and schools in the University as approved by the Director or Assistant Director of the Library School. II. A fifth year program leading to the degree of Master of Science in Library Science, replacing the present two-year program leading to the degree of Master of Science. The degree will be taken without thesis but nine units of graduate work will be required. A reading knowledge of one modern foreign language will be required for admission to the curriculum. A reading knowledge of at least two foreign languages will be required of students specializing in bibliographical work or college library administration. III. A two-year graduate program beyond the master's degree leading to the degree of Doctor of Library Science (L.S.D.). The Graduate College requirements as to major and minor subjects, residence, period of study, knowledge of languages, preliminary and final examinations, and research which apply to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) will apply to the degree of Doctor of Library Science. SMITH SCHOLARSHIPS IN MUSIC REGULATIONS (4) Under an agreement with the late Captain Thomas J. Smith of Champaign, a former member and president of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois who gave the University certain farm lands which were sold and the proceeds used for the construction of the Smith Music Hall, the Board of Trustees established four scholarships to be awarded each year to women in the School of
