CHANGE IN STATUS OF JOSEF F. WRIGHT (7) Mr. Josef F . W r i g h t has asked to be relieved of his duties as Director of Public Relations effective September 1, 1956, and that he be given personal leave of absence without pay beginning March I, 1957, until September 1, i957t when he plans to retire. H e will continue in University service on special assignments by the President from September I, 1956, until March 1, 1957. I have approved this change in status and request confirmation of my action. O n m o t i o n of M r . L i v i n g s t o n , t h e P r e s i d e n t ' s a c t i o n w a s confirmed a n d t h e B o a r d r e c o r d e d i t s d e e p a p p r e c i a t i o n of M r . W r i g h t ' s services over m a n y years. T h e Secretary w a s requested to send M r . W r i g h t a f o r m a l a n d m o r e e x t e n d e d e x p r e s s i o n o n b e h a l f of t h e B o a r d . CHANGES IN CURRICULUM IN RECREATION (8) T h e University Senate recommends the following changes in the curriculum leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Recreation: New General Courses Added to the Required Curriculum: <?pmpitpr Hr> Economics 108— Elements of Economics 3 History 152 — History of the United States 3 Journalism 309— Public Relations.2 Psychology — Statistical Methods in Psychology 3 Rhetoric 133 — Expository Writing 3 New Professional Courses Added to the Required Curriculum: Recreation 166 — Activities Leadership 2 T h i s is a substitute for the course, "Games For Children," two semester hours, offered by the Departments of Physical Education for Men and Physical Education for Women. It involves a change in prefix, title, and course content more suitable to the recreation curriculum needs. Recreation 208-209 — Field Experience 0 This is not a new undertaking inasmuch as it has been offered on an informal and experimental basis for two years and should now be placed in the curriculum officially. Recreation 210 — Inspection Trip o This is a substitute for the inspection trip course presently offered by the departments of Physical Education for Men and Physical Education for Women. It involves a change in prefix, title, and course content only to the extent that recreation majors will make an inspection trip more suitable to their needs. General Courses Dropped from the Required Curriculum: Education 211 — Educational Psychology 3 Sociology 385 — Methods of Sociological Research 3 Professional Courses Dropped from the Required Curriculum: P.E.M.-P.E.W. 166 — Games for Children 2 P.E.M.-P.E.W. 210 — Inspection T r i p 2 Recreation 272— Organization of Aquatic P r o g r a m s 2 Recreation 273 — Recreation in Rural Areas 2 Change in Course N u m b e r : It is recommended that Recreation 275, Organization of Recreation Programs, be changed to Recreation 375 and credit for the same be changed from three hours to three hours or one-half unit for graduate credit. This change is justified on the basis of its level of difficulty and requirements, its appropriateness for limited graduate credit, and the number of graduate students who take the course each semester. I concur in this recommendation. O n m o t i o n of M r . J o h n s o n , t h i s r e c o m m e n d a t i o n w a s a p p r o v e d . CURRICULUM IN HORTICULTURAL FOOD CROPS (9) T h e University Senate recommends authorization of a new undergraduate curriculum in the College of Agriculture leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Horticultural Food Crops. This program is designed to prepare the
