LEAVES OF ABSENCE BAER, REINHOLD, Professor of Mathematics — leave of absence without pay during the academic year 1956-57, so that he may accept an appointment as Professor of Mathematics at University of Frankfurt in Germany. BARBER, HOLLIS W., Professor of Social Sciences (Chicago Undergraduate Division) — leave of absence without pay beginning September I, 1956, and continuing through August 31, 1957, so that he may accept the research position with the Council on Foreign Relations to edit one or two of their annual surveys on American foreign relations. BARKSON, JOSEPH A., Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering (C) — extension of leave of absence, without pay, for the academic year 1956-57, in order that he may complete his thesis work. BESTOR, ARTHUR E., J R . , Professor of History — one year leave of absence beginning September 1, 1956, without pay, in order that he may accept the election as Harmsworth Professor of American History at Oxford University. KRUCER, P . GERALD, Research Professor in the Control Systems Laboratory and Professor of Physics, in the College of Engineerings—leave of absence, without pay, beginning March 16, 1956, and continuing through August 31, 1956, so that he may serve as Acting General Manager of Midwestern Universities Research Association. PROSSER, C. LADD, Professor of Physiology — Leave of absence, without pay, beginning March 1, 1957, and continuing through August 31, 1957, so that he may serve as Carnegie Visiting Professor of Zoology at the University of H a w a i i ; this is in addition to his sabbatical leave of absence for the first semester of 1956-57, on full pay. Mr. Swain reminded the Board that the May meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 1956 at the Country Club of Peoria. President Megran announced that the meeting will begin with luncheon at 12:00 noon, Central Daylight Saving Time.

The Board recessed for luncheon, following which Dr. Robert G. Bone, Assistant Provost, and Dean Charles C. Caveny addressed the Board on the state of the Chicago Undergraduate Division. On motion of Mr. Livingston, the Board adjourned.
