ADJUSTMENT IN THE BUDGET OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY A N D CHEMICAL ENGINEERING (13) In the past years, it has been necessary to reduce drastically provision for operating expense and equipment in the budget of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. With enrollment increasing and prices rising, the Department is facing a deficit for the year 1955-56 and has drawn extensively on its indirect cost fund. The balance of this fund is necessary for major additions to departmental equipment. In order that the Department may end the fiscal year without overdrawing its accounts, the Provost and the Comptroller recommend a nonrecurring addition of $20,000 to the operating budget of the Department, this appropriation to be from the University's General Reserve Fund. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Livingston, this appropriation was made by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Bissell, Mrs. Holt, Mr. Livingston, Mr. Megran, Mr. Swain, Mrs. Watkins; no, none; absent, Mr. Herrick, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Nickell, Mr. Stratton, Mr. Williamson.
