SERVICES OF H. M. GRAY O N T H E REGIONAL WAR LABOR BOARD (4) Professor H . M. Gray, Associate Dean of the Graduate School, was authorized to serve as one of four public representatives on the Regional W a r Labor Board and to accept a per-diem compensation for such services. This authorization was originally granted by the Board on January 23, 1043, and was extended on October 29, 1943, and again on November 30, 1944. Professor Gray served from February 1943, until August 31, 1945, when he terminated his active service as a Public Member of the Board. This date coincides with the expiration of the period for which he was authorized by the Board of Trustees to serve in that capacity. H e reports that the W a r Labor Board is scheduled for early liquidation and that during this period of transfer of functions, Chairman Edgar L. W a r r e n has asked that Dean Gray allow his name to remain on the roster of Public Members, with the understanding that he will not be called upon for any regular duties but will be available for consultation on questions of policy. I am authorizing him to continue in such a consulting capacity until December 31, 1945, and request confirmation of this action. O n m o t i o n of M r . VETERINARY PATHOLOGY LABORATORY (5) T h e Department of Veterinary Pathology and Hygiene and the College of Veterinary Medicine recommend that the name of the Animal Pathology Laboratory be changed to Veterinary Pathology Laboratory. I concur. O n m o t i o n of M r . M c L a u g h l i n , t h i s c h a n g e w a s a p p r o v e d a s r e c ommended. LEGAL SERVICES (6) On February 24, 1945, the Board of Trustees authorized the Legal Counsel to employ other attorneys to assist in carrying on the legal work of the University. Dean Albert J. H a r n o , then Legal Counsel, submits the following report on the employment of such attorneys, the services rendered, and the fees paid from the time of this authorization to July 1, 1945. Dean H a r n o ' s services as Legal Counsel terminated on September I, 1945. John H. Armstrong, Champaign. Services performed in connection with various objections to taxes and claims for exemptions from taxes by the University, involving the following properties: University Club, the Kimmel Farm, the Skating Rink, the Babcock Trust, the Wright Farms in DeKalb County, and other properties formerly held by the University of Illinois Foundation. Fee paid, $350. Meyer and Franklin, Champaign. Services in connection with the examination, re-examination, joining in curing objections to title, preparing original and final title opinions prior to closing, and final opinion thereafter, and closing: ( a ) Raymond S. Pruitt transaction, $83; (b) Lena R. Green, et al., transaction, $53-251 ( c ) M a r k D. Brown, et al, transaction, $68; ( d ) Fidelity Investment and Building Association transaction, $88.50; total, $292.75. H. I. Green and Associates, Urbana. This firm has been retained to assist in connection with condemnation of land proceedings. T h e services have only recently begun and no fees have been paid. Dobbins, Dobbins, and Thomas, Champaign. Services rendered in connection with tax foreclosure suit in Gallivan Addition, including attendance at hearings before Master-in-Chancery, $97.50. Services in connection with accident compensation case, $113. In addition to the above, the University has employed the following individuals: N. D. Belnap, Chicago. Mr. Belnap represented the University in a controversy before the Illinois Commerce Commission involving freight rates for coal. H e was retained by authority of the Board on recommendation of Judge Sveinbjorn Johnson, former University Counsel. A separate report on his services was made to the Board of Trustees on August 29, 1945.
