JULY 25, 1944

The Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois met at the University Club, Chicago, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 1944. All the members of the Executive Committee were present: Mr. Park Livingston, Chairman, General Chester R. Davis, and Mr. Frank A. Jensen, members of the Committee; also, during parts of the session, Mr. John R. Fornof and Mr. Orville M. Rarraker, members of the Board; also Mr. H. E. Cunningham, Secretary, Mr. Lloyd Morey, Comptroller, Mr. C. S. Havens, Director of the Physical Plant Department, and Judge Sveinbjorn Johnson, Professor of Law.

S E T T L E M E N T O F W R I G H T ESTATE

The Comptroller presented the following statement.

Judge Sveinbjorn Johnson submits with his approval, on request of R. F. McCormick and H . D. Fisk, executors of the estate of H a r r y G. Wright, a receipt which the Board of Trustees is asked to execute covering the payment of $21,020.24 a s the balance due the University from the above estate in accordance with a report of a special committee on the W r i g h t Estates (Minutes, August 31, *943, page 500, and resolution of October 29, 1943, page 745). W h e n this payment is made the University will have received from these estates the total sum of $156,104.24 made up as follows: 952.92 acres of land at an agreed value of $200 an acre $190 584 00 Less mortgages outstanding and assumed by University 55 500 00 $135 084 00 Cash as above 21 020 24 Total $156 104 24 This total compares with an estimate of $173,675 mentioned in the report of August 31, 1043. Judge Johnson also submits a proposed agreement whereby the Board of Trustees agrees to pay 6 5 % of any additional federal income taxes assessed against this estate or of expenses connected therewith.
