10. Macy Foundation of New York, $2,000 for research on the influence of zest on the physiology of fatigue, to be conducted by the College of Medicine under the supervision of Doctors W a r r e n S. McCulloch and Franz Alexander during the year ending February 28, 1945. 11. Sharp & Dohme, $1,375 for a study of Tyrothricin in the Department of Surgery by Dr. W . H . Cole. 12. Insulite Division, Minnesota and Ontario Paper Company, $900 plus a contribution of Insulite products valued at $325, to be used in a study of the suitability of insulation board for hog housing, including its use for the insulation of an existing permanent hog house as well as in the construction of portable houses, to be conducted by the Agricultural Experiment Station through the Department of Agricultural Engineering. 13. Thompson Hybrid Corn Company, $1,000 for research in the Department of Botany on vitamin contents of corn. 14. E. Fougera Company, $1,000 for further research in the Department of Laryngology, Rhinology, and Otology on the therapeutic value of Lipiodol in infections of the paranasal sinuses. IS- Producers' Crop Improvement Association, $750 for the support of the corn breeding work in the Agronomy Department. 16. Mr. John W. Ruettinger, $600 for the continuation of research in the Department of Applied Materia Medica and Therapeutics under the direction of Dr. R. G. Kesel. 17. Vermiculite Research Institute, $600 for research on the uses of Vermiculite as an insulation material and lightweight concrete aggregate for farm building construction, for a period of one year from January 1, 1944. 18. Drama Club of Evanston, $500 for the support of Dr. Fremont A. Chandler's work at the Illinois Surgical Institute for Children. 19. American Cyanamid & Chemical Corporation, $200 for an investigation of certain chemical materials as treatments for cereal seeds, for the period June 1, 1944, through May 31, 1945. 20. International Anesthesia Society, $200 in support of researches by Dr. W . E. Burge on " T h e Decrease of Negative Potential of the Brain Cortex Electrically." 21. National Lime Association, $860 for a fellowship in the Department of Chemistry, the fellow to work under the direction of Professor G. L. Clark. T h i s report w a s received for record. CLINICAL FACULTY OF T H E COLLEGE OF MEDICINE A N D ILLINOIS EYE AND EAR INFIRMARY FOR 1 9 4 4 - 1 9 4 5 (19) A recommendation that the following appointments be made to the nonsalaried faculty of the College of Medicine and the Illinois Eye and E a r Infirmary for the academic year beginning September 1, 1944; and that the President of the University be authorized to make such additional appointments and other changes as are desirable and necessary. All appointments are for one year from September I, 1944, unless otherwise indicated (see page 29). A summary by departments of the number of appointments and the comparative figures for 1943-1944 is also submitted (see page 29).

On motion of Mr. Jensen, these appointments were made and authority was granted as recommended.

DEANSHIP OF COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

(20) U n d e r the Statutes of the University, deans and directors are appointed for a term of two years, usually coinciding with the biennium. This term appointment in no way affects the tenure of such officers as professors; it limits, however, their tenure as administrators to a period of two years, In connection with the submission of the University budget for 1044-1945, I
