On motion of Mr. Williamson, the action of the President of the University in authorizing these changes was approved and confirmed.

PURCHASES AUTHORIZED (8) T h e following purchases were recommended by the Purchasing Agent and authorized by the Comptroller. Unless otherwise specified the purchases were made on the basis of lowest bids, ceiling prices, or because the items are noncompetitive. Emergency action was necessary to secure delivery in time to meet specific needs or because prices quoted were subject to immediate acceptance. 1. Student study tables, 1,456, for use in veterans' housing, from Jack Sheean, Bloomington, at a cost of $19,364.80. 2. Easy chairs, 728, for veterans' housing units, from the Newton & Hoit Furniture Company, Chicago, at a cost of $20,049.12 f.o.b. factory. 3. Study chairs, 1,820, for veterans' housing units, from Marshall Field & Company, Chicago, at a cost of $12,903.80 f.o.b. Urbana. 4. One completely equipped aircoup, for the Institute of Aeronautics, from Syracuse Aircraft Service, Syracuse, New York, at a cost of $3,150. 5. Paper, 100% rag bond, watermarked with the University of Illinois seal, as follows: 125 reams, 22" x 34" 40 lb.; 40 reams, 22" x 34" 26 lb.; for the Office Supply Store, from the Dwight Brothers Paper Company, Chicago, at a cost of $2,047.16. • 6. One induction heater, slightly used, for the Department of Electrical Engineering, from the Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at a cost of $4,200. 7. One thousand Faries I.E.S. table lamps, for the Residence Halls, from the General Electric Supply Corporation, Chicago, at a cost of $4,750. 8. One 42" x 84" two-pocket unloading washer, 208-220 volt electric motors, 3-phase pneumatic-operated valves complete with automatic unloading feature, for the Physical Plant Department, from the U S. Hoffman Machinery Corp., Chicago, at a cost not to exceed $6,878.15. 9. Fifty-five 39" x 120" refectory tables, thirteen 39" x 96" refectory tables, fifteen 39" x 39" tables, 576 chairs, for the Residence Halls, from the Universal Equipment Company, Batesville, Indiana, at a cost of $8,989.69. 10. Six sofas and twenty-two chairs, for the Residence Halls lounge, from Marshall Field & Company, Chicago, at a cost of approximately $3,017.34. 11. Steel double-deck beds, 728, for the Residence Halls, from A. D. Sackett, Champaign, at a cost of $7,280. 12. Handling and packing charges on 23 machine tools donated to the University through the preinduction training program, for the Department of Mechanical Engineering, from the Victory Machinery Movers, Victory Ordnance Plant, Decatur, at a cost of $1,600. 13. Mattresses, 1,456, 36" x 75" 32 lb., for the Residence Halls, as follows: 456 at $12 each, or a total cost of $5,472, from A. D. Sackett; 600 at $14.65 each, or a total cost of $8,790, from Marshall Field & Company; 400 at $14.85 each, from the Springfield Mattress Company, or a total cost of $5,940-
