T h e above application is being approved at this time on the basis of evidence that Mr. Morgenroth was in t h e military service from 1941 to December, 1945, and is entitled to one year from the date of his discharge (1045) within which to make his application for the Certificate, under this Section of the Act. 3. HARVEY AS PROFESSOR A N D HEAD O F T H E DEPARTMENT O F RADIOLOGY (2) A report of the appointment of D r . Roger A. Harvey of Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, N e w York, as Professor and Head of the Department of Radiology on indefinite tenure effective September 1, 1946, at an annual salary of $11,000. Doctor Harvey h a s also been appointed for the month of August, 1946, at a salary of $875. This appointment is to fill the vacancy created by t h e death of Dr. Adolph Hartung. It was necessary to make this appointment immediately in order to secure the services of Doctor Harvey who is one of t h e outstanding radiologists in the country, and I request confirmation of this action. O n m o t i o n of D r . M e y e r , t h e a c t i o n of t h e P r e s i d e n t o f t h e U n i v e r s i t y in m a k i n g t h i s a p p o i n t m e n t w a s a p p r o v e d a n d c o n f i r m e d . RETIREMENT O F PROFESSOR A. P. KRATZ (3) Professor Alonzo P . Kratz, Research Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Acting Head of the Department, has requested that h e be retired from active service effective September I, 1946. Professor Kratz is 61 years of age and will have completed thirty-eight years of continuous service at the University of Illinois at the end of t h e current academic year. U n d e r t h e law establishing the University Retirement System of Illinois, a participant who has attained at least the age of 60 and who has been certified by both the employer (in this case the University) and t h e Retirement Board as being entitled to a retirement annuity, shall on application therefor receive the same. I recommend approval of Professor Kratz's request and that he be given the title of Research Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Emeritus. O n m o t i o n of M r . M c K e l v e y , t h i s r e c o m m e n d a t i o n w a s a p p r o v e d . FEDERAL PUBLIC HOUSING AUTHORITY CONTRACTS (4) On January 31, 1046, t h e Board of Trustees adopted a resolution authorizing the Comptroller and t h e Secretary of the Board of Trustees to execute contracts with t h e Federal Public Housing Authority for the acquisition and use of dwelling units, when so directed by the President of the University.
