CONTRACT FOR REPLACEMENT OF SASH UNITS IN UNIVERSITY HIGH SCHOOL (16) The Director of the Physical Plant Department submits the following schedule of bids received for the replacement of the leaded sash units in the University High School building-. Steel Balance of sash units material and unglazed, work at Combined Bidders f.o.b. Urbana building bid Crittall-Federal, Inc., Waukesha, Wise $4 075 George W. Hays, Indianapolis $8 690 Steel Sash Service, Inc., Chicago 9111 Hugh J. Baker Co., Indianapolis 5 690 $14 980 H e recommends award of the work under two contracts: Critlall-Federal, Inc., Waukesha, Wisconsin, for sash units with steel divisions for all windows throughout the building, in the amount of $4,075 ; George W. Hays, Indianapolis, Indiana, for installation work including glass, glazing, and bedding of sash in present metal frames, $8,690—total, $12,765. T h e only complete bid on all work was from the H u g h J. Baker Company in the amount of $14,980, so that the above recommendation is based on the acceptance of the lowest bids received for the work specified. This is a maintenance expenditure and will be charged against the funds of the Physical Plant Department (building maintenance account) for the current fiscal year. I recommend approval.

On motion of Mr. Cleary, these awards were made as recommended.

AWARD OF GENERAL CONTRACT FOR REMODELING ROOMS IN OLD AGRICULTURE BUILDING (17) The Sixty-second General Assembly, First Special Session, made an appropriation to the State W a t e r Survey for an intensive investigation of the water resources of the State with special reference to the needs of war industries. T h e State W a t e r Survey will need additional office quarters for carrying on this work. Under the law the University is required to house the State Scientific Surveys. Space is available in the Old Agriculture Building which, if remodeled, will be suitable for this purpose. Accordingly the Physical Plant Department was authorized to secure bids for the remodeling of this room and other areas involved. T h e following bids for the general work were received: T. J. Corkery, Urbana $2 870 E. N. DeAtley, Champaign 1 825 King & Petry, Champaign 2 387 Alex Sowers, Urbana 2 292 Since this space is urgently needed by the State W a t e r Survey, and to save time, I authorized the award of the contract to E. N. DeAtley, Champaign, the lowest bidder, at a cost of $1,825, and request confirmation of my action. Funds are available in the State appropriation for building remodeling to cover the cost. I also request authority to award contracts for the work of the mechanical trades involved in this remodeling.

On motion of Mr. Adams, the action of the President in awarding these contracts was approved and confirmed, and authority to make other awards was given as requested.

PURCHASES RECOMMENDED (18) A recommendation that the following purchases be authorized: 1. 65,000 gallons of gasoline to be delivered in 8,000 gallon tank cars as required, from the Ohio Oil Company, the lowest bidder, at a price of 10.492^
