ADJUSTMENT IN BUDGET OF ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION (5) T h e Board of Directors of the Athletic Association has authorized the expenditure of $1,800 from the surplus funds of the Association for the installation of lighting equipment on the football practice field at the Stadium. It is not certain that the materials will be available to complete the work this fall, and the appropriation will not be expended unless the work can be done immediately and benefits derived this season. I recommend approval.

On motion of Mr. Jensen, these adjustments were authorized.

COMPENSATION TO HIRAM LAUDERDALE FOR PERMANENT INJURY (6) H i r a m Lauderdale, employed as a laborer at the Dixon Springs Experiment Station, suffered an injury to one eye on December 17, 1940, while engaged in University work. H e was salvaging galvanized roofing from a wrecked shack. A chip from the head of a steel hammer struck him in the left eye, damaging the eyeball. T h e extent of disability has been estimated by an eye specialist at 70 per cent. H e states that a secondary cataract is developing which will need to be removed in two or three months and that from an industrial standpoint this is equivalent to the loss of an eye. T h e Committee on Accident Compensation for Employees has made a careful examination of the case and has reached the conclusion that the accident is one which is compensable by the University under the provisions of the Workmen's Compensation Act. The Committee has proposed, and Mr. Lauderdale has indicated his willingness to accept a settlement on the following basis: Payment by the University of all hospital and medical services incurred, the total of which amounts to $ 453 So Payment to Mr. Lauderdale of the sum of $9.24 a week for 120 weeks, a total of $1 108 80 The allowance for disability is based on provisions of the Compensation Act for loss of or permanent injury to an eye. Workmen's

On motion of Mr. Livingston, this settlement was approved.
