REPAIR OF POWER PLANT STACK (21) T h e Director of the Physical Plant Department secured bids on tuck pointing the stack and replacing lightning rod cables at the Chicago Departments Power Plant as follows: Alphons Custodis Chimney Construction Company $2270 Continental Chimney Company, Inc 2 562 Heine Chimney & Construction Company 2 575 In order that the work be completed as soon as possible, I authorized the acceptance of the proposal of the low bidder and request confirmation of this action. WAGES OF LABORERS IN PHYSICAL PLANT DEPARTMENT (22) T h e Director of the Physical Plant Department recommends that the wages of University police be increased from the basic rate of 65 cents an hour to 72 cents an hour, with the understanding that this rate shall be paid for all over-time, as well as for regular work, instead of the previous rate of time and one-half for over-time and double time for Sundays and holidays. This recommendation is made in recognition of the University policy of paying its employees the rate of wages in their respective crafts and classifications as prevail in the local community. Policemen in Champaign and Urbana are now paid $150 a month, which is the minimum fixed by State Law. This minimum
