NEW APPOINTMENTS OF PROFESSORIAL OR OTHER MAJOR RANKS (2) A report of the following new appointments of professorial or other major ranks: Dr. H e n r y George H o m e r Halvorson, formerly Reference Assistant at the H a r v a r d College Library, to be Associate University Librarian for one year from September 1, 1041, at a salary of $4,500. Dr. Milward Baylis, formerly Instructor at Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene, to be Assistant Professor of Bacteriology and Public Health, in the College of Medicine, for t w o years from September 1, 10,41, at a salary of $3,000 a year.

On motion of Mr. Karraker, these appointments were approved.

CANCELLATION OF SABBATICAL LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR M. GOLDHABER (3) O n January 22, 1041 (Minutes, page 153), Assistant Professor M. Goldhaber of the Department of Physics was granted a sabbatical leave of absence for the first semester of 1041-1042 on one-half pay and for the second semester without pay. This leave was granted with the provision that it would be subject to cancellation by the President of the University if a shortage of personnel and inability to find a satisfactory substitute made it inadvisable for Professor Goldhaber to be away.
