would be in order if the program were continued as a division of the Department of Animal Husbandry. 2. Division of Anaesthesia—The work in anaesthesia has been administered as an independent division of the College of Medicine. T h e Dean of the College and the Executive Dean recommend, and I concur, that the work in anaesthesia be placed in the Department of Surgery. This does not affect the budget.

On motion of Dr. Meyer, these changes were authorized as recommended.

NEW APPOINTMENTS OF PROFESSORIAL RANK (3) A recommendation that the following appointments to the staff, effective September 1, 1941, be approved: 1. John Fred Bell, Professor of Economics, two years from September 1, 1041, at a salary of $5,000 a year. 2. W a r r e n Sturgis McCulloch, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, College of Medicine, one year from September 1, 1941, at a salary of $5,000. 3. Deane G. Carter, Professor and Chief in Agricultural Engineering, two years from September 1, 1041, at a salary of $4,800. 4. Kenneth Dean Benne, Assistant Professor of Education, one year from September 1, 1941, at a salary of $4,000. 5. Ralph Lester Boyd, Auditor and Assistant Professor of Accountancy, one year from September 1, 1941, at a salary of $3,600. 6. Thomas Kirk Cureton, Jr., Associate Professor of Physical Education for Men, one year from September 1, 1041, at a salary of $3,600. 7. Arthur C. Forsyth, Assistant Professor of Metallurgical Engineering, one year from September I, 1941, at a salary of $3,000. 8. Veikko Oscar Hurme, Assistant Professor of Dentistry in the Department of Infirmary and Operative Dentistry, one year from September 1, 1941, at a salary of $3,000. 9. Heinrich Gomperz, Visiting Professor of the Classics, first semester, 1941-1942, at a semester salary of $2,500.

On motion of Mr. Jensen, these appointments were approved as recommended.

RETIREMENT OF MEMBERS OF THE STAFF (4) A report that the following members of the staff will retire effective September I, 1941, on the retiring allowance indicated in each case.
