132 BOARD OF TRUSTEES [December 5 MEETING OF T H E EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE DECEMBER 5, 1940 A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held at the Blackstone Hotel, in Chicago, on Thursday, December 5, 1940, during a recess in the meeting of the Board. Mr. Harold Pogue, Chairman, and Mr. James M. Cleary and Mrs. Glenn E. Plumb, members of the Executive Committee, were present; also the members of the Board and the officers enumerated above. MATTERS PRESENTED BY PRESIDENT WILLARD The Executive Committee considered the following matters presented by the President of the University. APPROPRIATION FOR N E W EDITION OF THE CODE ON S T U D E N T AFFAIRS (1) A recommendation that an appropriation of $300 be made from the General Reserve Fund for the publication of a new edition of the Code on Student Affairs. This is a compilation of the regulations of the Committee on Student Affairs and should be made available to all students who desire such information. T h e last edition was published in 1937. On motion of Mrs. Plumb, this appropriation was made as recommended, by unanimous vote of record. ACTING DIRECTOR OF S T U D E N T HOUSING (2) Mr. C. R. Frederick, Director of Student Housing, has been granted a leave of absence for one year without pay from November 16, 1940, for military service. Mr. S. E. Thompson, Assistant for Men's Housing, has been appointed Acting Director of Student Housing t o serve during the absence of Mr. Frederick, or until further notice, at a salary of $2,500 a year, effective November 16, 1940. The Housing Division has been placed under the administration of the University Health Officer, who is also Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Student Housing. Director Frederick also served as Secretary of the Senate Committee on Student Discipline, and this responsibility has been assigned to Assistant Dean R, P . Hackett of the College of Commerce who has been authorized to combine it with his duties as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Student Discipline. T h e Acting Director of Student Housing has also been authorized to issue motor vehicle and bicycle permits (a function exercised by his predecessor) as the agent of the Senate Committee on Student Affairs and Student Discipline subject to their administrative regulations.
