From: Monica Oakley Student Activities C o m m i t t e e I. SUMMARY 1. 2. 3. k. II. Check the listings for your section in Enclosure 2. Send corrections to your Regional Coordinator. To be a Student Member of SWE, you must pay the $10 dues. Technical Presentation Competition entries are due March 15, 1986. See Guidelines in Enclosure 2 for details. Student members should be receiving issues of the U.S. Woman Engineer if their membership dues have been sent to Headquarters.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW For Your Student Notebook - See the Student Section Directory, Enclosure 2, for the names and addresses of all Student Section Presidents, Faculty Advisors, and SWE Counselors. Add the Directory to your Student Notebook for future reference. Please check your section's listing and send any corrections to your Regional Coordinator. Membership - It has come to our attention that some clarification is needed on the definition of a Student Member. To be a Student Member of SWE, the applicant must be majoring in engineering or a related field (e.g., computer science) a t an accredited, four-year institution (or at a school with a chartered SWE Student Section) and pay the $10 dues. You may NOT have "local" members or charge "local" dues. You may charge a newsletter fee and open your activities to non-members. It is your responsibility to encourage those participating in your activities to become members. In many ways, joining SWE is an ethical issue; if you are receiving benefits from an organization, you should be a member of that organization. Student Sections and many student activities on the national level are subsidized by the dues paid by non-student members. Students comprise approximately two-thirds of the total membership. Your student dues do not even cover the cost of the US WE magazine you receive. We have responded to your input on membership by providing more timely and a c c u r a t e membership information for your use. Please urge your participants to join SWE as Student Members and your seniors to upgrade to Members or Associate Members upon graduation.
