1960] UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS 79 Land Acquisition — Chicago Professional Colleges To be financed by the Medical Center Commission ($865,000). In planning for the enlargement of the University's facilities for the conduct of its educational and patient care programs in recognition of the increasing number of students and the enlarged programs of research being conducted in the Professional Colleges, the University has worked closely with the Medical Center Commission to determine that land which the University will need in 1961-63. Schedule E —1961-63 Biennium Campus Planning and Building Studies — Urbana-Champaign and Chicago Professional Colleges Appropriation request $3,460,000. The University has recognized the value of allowing adequate time for a thorough study and analysis of departmental requests for space and for the preparation of building studies and designs. As mentioned earlier in this report, the buildings recommended for construction during this biennium are limited to those for which the University has the ability to prepare plans and specifications, take bids, and complete the construction of the building in one biennium. This points out the extreme necessity to have funds appropriated for building studies and plans and specifications in the biennium prior to that in which construction is to be started (i.e. funds appropriated in 1961-63 for building studies would be expended on building projects to be constructed in 1963-65). This procedure will eliminate the need for reappropriating funds and allow more effective planning and designing of future University buildings. The appropriation requested will provide planning funds for the twenty-five projects listed below: fill Planning for (Listed Alphabetically) 1. Aeronautical Engineering Building — First Stage 2.
