UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS

(evel with the space leased by the University at 704 South Sixth Street, and for the purchase and installation of lighting fixtures required by the University beyond those provided by the owners. Since the University can not enter into contracts extending beyond the current fiscal biennium, it will be necessary to make the lease arrangements through the University of Illinois Foundation. Funds required for the annual rental and maintenance have been included in the operating budget of the Physical Plant Department. I recommend that the Board of Directors of the University of Illinois Foundation be asked to enter into a lease for a ten-year period of the property of the second floor space at 601, 603, and 60S East Green Street for a period of ten years from September 1, 1961, at_ the rental indicated, and to sublease quarters to the University for the period ending June 30, 1963, with option to renew; and that an assignment of $6,100 be made from the General Reserve Fund for the improvements required by the University. On motion of Mrs. Watkins, this recommendation was approved, and the requested assignment of funds and the lease were authorized by the following vote: Aye, Mr, Clement, Mr. Dilliard, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Swain, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Wilkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr, Kerncr; not voting, Mr. Harewood.

EXCHANGE O F LAND AT CHICAGO PROFESSIONAL COLLEGES

(21) The site allocated by the Medical Center Commission for the new buildings of the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary is on the south side of West Taylor Street ktween Wood Street and Wrolcott Avenue, and includes some land owned by the University (identified as Tract No. 388) which, however, is outside of the area now designated for University buildings. The Commission desires to acquire this liarcel of land from the University and has offered to exchange for it land at the southwest corner of Winchester Avenue and West Polk Street which the Commission is acquiring. The University at present has all of the remaining properties on Polk Street from Damen Avenue east to this area. The parcel of land offered in exchange is slightly larger than the University tract which the Commission wishes to acquire. The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend authorization of this exchange. On motion of Mr. Hughes, this exchange was authorized, subject to further approval of the Board by adoption of a forma! resolution to implement the transfers of the properties. This action was taken by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Dilliard, Mr. Harewood, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Swain, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Wilkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Kerner.
