UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS CONTRACTS FOR REMODELING AT NAVY PIER FOR CHICAGO UNDERGRADUATE DIVISION

n) The Board of Trustees has authorized the lease of additional space at Navy Pier to provide for relocation and expansion of the Student Lounge as the first step in die initiation of a program of "Student Union" activities at the Chicago Undergraduate Division, and to provide for expansion of the reading room area 0f the Library at the Pier. A Student Union fee of $5.00 per semester has been established by the Board, at the request of students, to provide income for the Student Union operations. The Board also appropriated funds for the rental and (or the necessary remodeling. The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend awards of contracts as follows for this remodeling, the award in each case being to the lowest bidder: General —Mueller Construction Company, Chicago $30 979 Electrical—B-H Electric Company, Chicago 8 921 The lowest bids cover replacement of the wood block flooring with concrete f.oor at a cost of $11,500; and the electrical work incidental to the removal of the flooring at a cost of $102. The total of $11,602 will be paid_ from interest on hinds held in escrow for rehabilitating Navy Pier when it is vacated by the University. I concur. On motion of Mr. Johnston, these contracts were awarded by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Johnston, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, none.

CONTRACT FOR INSTALLATION O F ELEVATORS IN STUDENT SERVICES BUILDING

(2) The Board of Trustees on May 17, 1961, awarded contracts for the construction of the Student Services Building. Recommendation for award of a contract for [lie installation of elevators was deferred until certain questions concerning the llicn apparently lowest bid could be answered. The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller now recommend award of a contact for $54,781 to Otis Elevator Company, Chicago, for the installation of elevators. Funds are available from the proceeds of the Student Services Building Revenue Bonds issue, I concur. On motion of M r s . Watkins, this contract was awarded by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Johnston, M r s . Watkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, none.

CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION O F T H E SOUTHWEST CAMPUS STORM SEWER

(3) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend award of a contract to Clancy Construction Company, Urbana, the lowest bidder, for the construction of the southwest campus storm sewer at a contract price of $522,448.50, if funds are available within sixty days following «K taking of bids on June 29, 1961, that is, no later than August 28, 1961, or at a contract price of $582,448.50 if the funds are not available until after sixty days M within one hundred and twenty days or not later than October 27, 1961.
