UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS APPOINTMENT O F AUDITORS

Jlr. Swain, for the Finance Committee, presented the following report:

The Board of Trustees retained the firm of Ernst and Ernst, Certified Public Accountants, for the audit of the University of Illinois accounts for the fiscal vear ended June 30, 1958, with the understanding that the firm would be employed ior three years, subject to annua! review. The employment was continued in 1939 and 1960, and the firm has completed this three-year period. The Finance Committee requested the firm of Lybrand, Ross Brothers, and Montgomery to submit a proposal for the audit of the University for the year ended June 30, 1961, with the intention of retaining _ this firm for a three-year period, subject to annual review. The proposal submitted by the firm is on the {jasis of completing the audit at the prevailing yearly rate for college and university audits, plus cash expenses, plus expenses for travel and subsistence of the staff assigned to the audit, with the understanding that the aggregate charges would not exceed the following amounts: The University of Illinois i The Uuiversity of Illinois Residence Halls and Student-Staff Apart-I » ^y 200 ments, including bond funds f The University of Illinois Assembly Hall Revenue Bond Fund J The University Retirement System of Illinois 2 200 The University of Illinois Alumni Association 600 The Athletic Association of the University of Illinois, including the Retirement System 1 000 The University of Illinois Foundation 1 300 Under present slate law, the Auditor General of Illinois is responsible for auditing or causing to be audited the records of the University. The Auditor General, Mr. Frank H. Whitney, has followed the practice of earlier years in which the Auditor Genera! is consulted concerning the employment of the auditing firm, and the firm employed by the University submits copies of its report directly to him, as well as to the Board of Trustees. Any additional work which the Auditor General may require is at the expense of his office. The firm of l.ybrand, Ross Brothers, and Montgomery is acceptable to the Auditor General. The Finance Committee recommends the employment of Lybrand, Ross Brothers, and Montgomery for the audit of the University accounts for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1961.

On motion of Mr, Swain, the employment of Lybrand, Ross Brothers, and Montgomery was authorized as recommended.

AIESHIRE, IHMA, Clinical Instructor in Dermatology (Medicine), February 10August 31, 1961, without salary (3-22-61). _ ALLDEITT, KEITH, Assistant Professor of English, two years from September 1, 1W1, to render service during each academic year, $6,400 a year (3-6-61).. ALLEW, ALPKED W.7 Professor of Ceramic Engineering (C), two months from July 1, 1961, $1,233.33 a month; this is in addition to his present appointment (3-17-61). APOSTOL, JAMES V., Instructor in Surgery (Medicine), four months from March 1, 1%1, without salary (3-17-61). ASCH, WALTER _B,, Instructor in Social Sciences (Chicago Undergraduate Division), yA time, March 1-August 32, 1961, to render service during the second semester of the academic year, $1,725, supersedes (3-2-61).
