MILUGAN, BURTON A., Professor of English — leave of absence on account of il] health, with full pay, beginning September 1, 1960, and continuing to January 12, 1961. SHAFFER, PAUL R., Professor of Geology and Acting Head of the Department — leave of absence, without pay, for one year from September 1, 1961, so that he may serve on the staff of the National Science Foundation as Program Director in the Division of Scientific Personnel and Education. MILLIGAN, BURTON A., Professor of English — sabbatical leave of absence, with full pay, granted him for the first semester of 1960-61, cancelled without prejudice.

MR. WIRT HERR1CK

At this point, Mr. Wirt Herrick, whose term as Trustee has expired and who was a guest at today's meeting, requested the privilege of the floor. He stated that because of ill health he was unable to attend the Board meeting on February 15, 1961, his last as a Trustee, and he desired to take this occasion to express his appreciation of the privilege of having served as a Trustee of the University of Illinois during the past twelve years, and to thank the Board for the resolution it adopted at the February meeting. RECESS On motion of Mr. Johnston, an executive session was ordered, to be held after a recess, tor consideration of reports and recommendations relating to property acquisitions, patentable inventions, and personnel matters. On motion of Mr. Harewood, the Board recessed for luncheon and lor an inspection of the new Fine and Applied Arts Building and the Krannert Art Museum. EXECUTIVE SESSION The Board reconvened in executive session at 2:15 p.m. The same members of the Board, officers of the Board, and officers of the University were present as recorded at the beginning of these minutes. The Board resumed consideration of reports and recommendations from the President of the University.
