AGREEMENT WITH CITY O F URBANA FOR CONSTRUCTION O F TRAFFIC SIGNALS AND IMPROVEMENT OF ORCHARD STREET EXTENDED

(11) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend authorization of an agreement with the city of Urbana for the installation of traffic signals at Florida Avenue and Orchard Street in accordance with the provisions stated below. Florida Avenue is now a through street, and signals are needed to reduce hazards at this intersection which is the traffic access to and from the Orchard Place Apartments. The city will assume the cost of engineering for the installation, including award of contracts and field supervision; the University will pay the city for the actual cost of the installation, estimated at $8,500. The University will also construct approximately 155 lineal feet of pavement, 34 feet wide on Orchard Street extended, south of the intersection, at an estimated cost of $7,500. Funds are available in the construction budget for the Orchard Place Apartments, I concur. On motion of M r s . W a t k i n s , this agreement was authorized,

CONTRACT FOR EXTENSION OF UTILITIES TO ENTOMOLOGY LABORATORY

(12) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend award of the following contracts to the lowest bidders on the extension of steam and electrical service to the Entomology Laboratory which is being constructed as an annex to Burrill Hall: Electrical, including construction of underground duct runs, manholes, and furnishing and installing electrical material (Division "NN") — Square Deal Electrical Contracting, Inc., LaPorte, Indiana $12 150 Piping system for extension of steam service (Division "OO") — Ideal Heating Company, Chicago 11 888 Funds are available in a federal grant, state capital appropriations to the University for 1959-61, and assignments of University funds made by the Board. Submitted herewith is a report from the Physical Plant Department on this project, including a schedule of the bids received, a copy of which is being filed with the Secretary of the Board for record. I concur. On motion of M r . Swain, these contracts were awarded, as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, M r . Harewood, Mr. Hughes, Mr, Johnston, Mr. Pogue, M r , Swain, M r s . W a t k i n s , Mr. Wilkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, M r . Herrick, M r . Kerner.
