This is part of the first phase of the installation of a new 12,000-volt service for the Dentistry-Medicine-Pharmacy Buildings and some areas of the Research and Educational Hospitals. The installation will replace the present overloaded and unreliable 4,000-volt service and the first phase of the work wilt provide additional electrical capacity in an area seriously deficient now and will establish the primary 12,000-volt service and transformer vault for the ultimate proj ect. Bids were taken on a base bid and eight additive alternates in order to have as much of the work done as funds would permit. The contract here recommended will provide for equipping the 12,000-volt vault and supplying adequate electrical service to the basement, first, second, and third floors of the first unit of the Dentistry-Mediciue-Pharmacy Building. Funds are available in the state capital appropriations to the University for 1959-61. I concur. CONTRACTS FOR STORM AND SANITARY SEWER CONSTRUCTION AND EXTENSION OF WATER MAIN T O SERVE ASSEMBLY HALL

(34) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend awards of contracts to the lowest bidders as follows: Construction of Southwest Campus Storm Sewer, Temporary Outlet, and First Street Sanitary Sewer —Illiana Construction Company, Urbana $57 500 Construction of First Street Water Main Extension — Cross Construction Company, Urbana 14 297 Funds are available in the Physical Plant Department budget. I concur. On motion of Mr. Swain, these contracts were awarded, as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Harewood, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Swain, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Wilkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Clement, Mr. Herrick, Mr. Stratton.

CHANGE IN CONTRACT FOR INSTALLATION OF SEATING IN ASSEMBLY HALL

(35) The Board of Trustees has authorized a contract with theAmerican Seating Company of New York, the lowest bidder, for the installation of permanent seating in the Assembly Hall on the basis of $253,300 for 17,000 stadium-type seats with the University having the option of increasing or decreasing the number on the basis of unit cost, and with alternates providing for the addition of arms and upholstered seats and backs in the theater quadrant. On the advice of the architect for the building, the Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend a change in the contract to provide for a 20V^ inch minimum space per seat in the theater quadrant and the installation of upholstered seats with backs and arms in this area; and 19y$ inch minimum space per seat in the balance of the area. This will provide a good standard of comfort but will reduce the permanent seating from 16,800 to 15,902 (4,142 in the theater quadrant and 11,760 in the rest of the area). The additional cost will be $21,575. A supporting statement from the Physical Plant Department is submitted herewith and a copy is being filed with the Secretary of the Board for record.

I concur.

On motion of Mr. Harewood, this change in contract was authorized.

UNIVERSITY F U N D S REQUIRED FOR IMPROVEMENT O F GREEN STREET IN URBANA

(36) The Board of Trustees has authorized an agreement with the city of Urbana providing for the payment by the University of its share of the cost of the widening and repaving of Green Street from Wright Street to Lincoln Avenue.
