BOARD OF TRUSTEES

VELETSOS, ANESTIS S., Professor of Civil Engineering — leave of absence, without pay, second semester of 1962-63, so that he may accept an appointment as Visiting Professor of Applied Mechanics at Rice University.

CANCELLATION O F SABBATICAL LEAVE OF ABSENCE PHILLIPS, JOSEPH D., JR., Research Professor in the Bureau of Economic and

Business Research — leave of absence on full pay for six months beginning September 1, 1962, cancelled without prejudice.

JULY A N D AUGUST MEETINGS

President Clement announced that the next meeting of the Board of Trustees will be held in the LaSalle Hotel, Chicago, on July 18, 1962. He asked if the Board desires to make a decision at this time regarding a meeting in August. The Secretary stated that some contracts will need to be awarded and purchases authorized in August, and that the Executive Committee can act for the Board in transacting these items of business. On motion of Mr. Johnston, the Board voted to omit the August meeting. President Clement announced that the September meeting is presently scheduled for Wednesday, September 19, 1962. President Clement stated that an executive session has been requested, and was being ordered, for consideration of property acquisitions, patentable inventions, and classified research contracts, and that this session will be held immediately after luncheon. On motion of Mr. Williamson, the Board recessed.

ADDRESS BY PROFESSOR C. J . McINTYRE

During the luncheon recess, Professor C. J. Mclntyre, Coordinator of Instructional Television, addressed the Board on the University's involvement in the airborne television program. EXECUTIVE SESSION W h e n the Board reconvened in executive session, the same members of the Board, officers of the Board, a n d officers of the University as were recorded at the beginning of these minutes were present. The Board took u p consideration of the following items of business:

PURCHASE OF PROPERTIES

(1) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend purchase of the following properties at the prices and on the terms indicated in each case: 1111 West Illinois Street, Urbana $ 36 175 The property consists of a lot 65 feet wide and 150 feet deep and a three-story and basement frame residence. The building will eventually be removed and the land will be part of an area to be developed for parking facilities replacing those lost when construction is started on the Illinois Street Residence Hall. Possession will be delivered not later than August 1, 1962, and taxes will be prorated. 1118 West Illinois Street and 408 South Goodwin Avenue, Urbana 95 5(10 The property consists of a corner lot 55 feet on Illinois Street by 130 feet on Goodwin Avenue, and a three-story and basement, twelve-unit apartment building and a two-story frame residence. The apartment building will be used to provide temporary office quarters and the balance of the land for additional parking spaces. Possession will be delivered not later than August 1, 1962, and taxes will be prorated.
