It is also recommended that all contracts other than the general contract be assigned to the contractor for the general work, making the total of his contract price $4,278,033.33. It is further recommended that an assignment agreement be entered into with Oman and Giden, Inc. for the assignment of these other contracts for $50,000, this being the amount bid by that company for a service charge for supervision of other contracts assigned to the general contractor. Funds are available from the following sources: State capital appropriations to the University for 1961-63 from the Universities Building Fund, which have been released $4 063 000 National Institutes of Health grant 1 346 115 Hill-Burton federal funds for which application is pending 243 938 Submitted herewith are schedules of bids received and the proposed construction budget for the project, copies of which are being filed with the Secretary of the Board for record. CONTRACT WITH CHICAGO LAND CLEARANCE COMMISSION FOR CONGRESS CIRCLE CAMPUS SITE (24) Based on the campus planning approved by the Board of Trustees on September 21, 1961, negotiations have continued with the Chicago Land Clearance Commission for the acquisition of the Congress Circle site. A draft of the site acquisition contract has been developed, the terms of which may be summarized as follows: The Commission will: Complete the acquisition of the site and transfer the parcels to the University at various times within the University's time schedule. The first transfer of land to the University is to be made on June 30, 1962. The conveyances will be subject to necessary underground utility easements which must cross the site and which have been mutually agreed upon; Demolish and remove all existing buildings (except a portion of the Hull House complex), and grade the site; Remove all paving, street lighting fixtures, sidewalks, and utility lines within the site except for those which may remain, by mutual agreement; Secure the vacation of streets, alleys, and other public rights which are to be eliminated and replat the area; Assume the cost and responsibility for paving and improving the adjacent streets, including street lighting, in order to provide for the projected increased traffic load; and Cause the abandonment, removal, installation, and relocation of such utilities as may be mutually agreed upon. The University will: Pay the Commission at the rate of $1,008 per square foot for land conveyed to it. Develop the property as a campus in accordance with the approved redevelopment plan; and Diligently prosecute the construction of the improvements. T h e Director of the Physical Plant, the Legal Counsel, and the VicePresident and Comptroller recommend that execution of the contract by the University be authorized. I concur.
