FEDERAL GRANT FOR CLINICAL RESEARCH CENTER

(17) The Vice-President for the University of Illinois at the Medical Center, Chicago, reports that the National Institutes of Health has approved a grant of $450,000 for the period January 1, 1962, through September 30, 1963, for establishment of a Clinical Research Center in the Research and Educational Hospitals for the Department of Medicine. Application for this grant had previously been authorized by the Board. On motion of M r s . Watkins, acceptance of this grant was authorized. Mr. Dilliard moved that the Board of Trustees send a letter to the Chairman of the appropriate Congressional Committee urging that the percentage of indirect costs now paid for grants received from the Department of Health, Education, and W e l f a r e be increased; and that copies of this letter be sent to the Illinois delegation in Congress. This motion was unanimously adopted.

BEQUEST OF DAVID MORTIMER OLKON

(18) The will of the late Dr. David Mortimer Olkon of Los Angeles, California, an alumnus and a former member of the faculty of the College of Medicine, includes the following bequest to the University: The sum of Six Thousand Dollars ($6,000.00) to the University of Illinois to be held in perpetual trust and to be known as the "David Mortimer Olkon, M.D., Scholarship Fund." The income of said trust shall be paid annually to two outstanding senior medical students in the Departments of Neurology and Psychiatry, to be selected on the basis of excellence and scholastic standing by the Dean of the Medical School and the heads of each of said departments. The University has received payment of the bequest in the amount of $6,679.98, which includes interest earned during the settlement of the estate. On motion of M r s . Watkins, acceptance of this bequest was authorized.
