BUSINESS PRESENTED BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY The Board took up consideration of the following reports and recommendations from the President of the University.

APPOINTMENTS TO T H E FACULTY (1) The following new appointments to the faculty of the rank of Assistant Professor and above, and involving tenure, have been approved since the previous meeting of the Board of Trustees. 1. MARY ADAMS, Assistant Professor of Nursing, beginning December 11, 1961, at an annual salary of $9,000 ( D Y ) . 2. HUZIHIRO ARAKI, Research Assistant Professor of Physics, beginning September 1, 1962, at an annual salary of $8,100 ( D ) . 3. HELEN B. CARLSON, Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, beginning November 1, 1961, without salary ( D Y ) . 4. CHESTER J. CAVALLITO, Lecturer with rank of Professor, Department of Pharmacology, College of Medicine, beginning December 1, 1961, without salary ( D Y ) . 5. RICHARD N. FENZL, Assistant Professor of Agricultural Engineering, beginning April 1, 1962, at an annual salary of $8,500 ( B Y ) . 6. H U G H S. JOHNSON, Assistant Professor of Animal Science, beginning December 11, 1961, at an annual salary of $8,500 ( B Y ) . 7. BUD J. MEADOR, Assistant Director of the Statistical Service Unit, Provost's Office, beginning September 1, 1961, at an annual salary of $9,000 ( D Y ) . 8. ARTHUR L. REVISIONS IN T H E GENERAL CURRICULUM IN AGRICULTURE WITH MAJOR FOR TEACHERS OF VOCATIONAL AGRICULTURE (2) The Urbana-Champaign Senate recommends the following revisions in the curriculum in general agriculture for students majoring in vocational agriculture: First Year Students who pass the mathematics or algebra placement test will not be required to take a mathematics course; all others must take either Mathematics 111, 112, or 104. Only one semester of mathematics is required. Second Year, second semester Add Agronomy 101, Soils, four semester hours. Three semester hours of agriculture courses from Group I required, in place of six semester hours formerly required. Third Year, first semester Delete Agronomy 201, Soils, five semester hours. Increase in requirements from agriculture courses from Group I from three to six semester hours. Three hours of agriculture electives required. Fourth Year, second semester Add Agricultural Economics 230, Marketing of Agriculture Products, or a 300level course in agricultural economics, three semester hours. Decrease in agricultural electives required from six semester hours to three semester hours. Change in electives required from six-twelve semester hours to nine semester hours. Group I. Courses in agriculture required of all students in this curriculum. Additions are in italics and deletions are in parentheses. 1 Students entering as juniors or seniors should substitute Agricultural Economics 230 for Agricultural Economics 100 and Horticulture 242 or 262 for Horticulture 100. If Agricultural Economics 230 is substituted for Agricultural Economics 100, students must also complete a three-hour elective in agricultural economics at the 300 level.
