CONTRACT FOR POWER SUPPLY FOR BETATRON BUILDING

(9) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend award of a contract for $13,879 to the Hyre Electric Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for installation of a new power supply to the Betatron Building at the Chicago Professional Colleges. This improvement is in connection with changing the electrical supply to the Medical Center Campus from 4000 volts to 12,000 volts and will include installing new duct work and cables to the Betatron. Long-range plans contemplated this improvement to the electrical distribution system. Funds are available in the state capital appropriations from the Universities Building Fund. I concur. On motion of Mr. Clement, this contract was awarded by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Dilliard, Mr. Harewood, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Pogue, M r . Swain, M r s . Watkins, Mr. Wilkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none: absent, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Kerner.

CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF BURNSIDES RESEARCH LABORATORY

(10) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend awards of contracts as follows for the construction of the Burnsides Research Laboratory on Pennsylvania Avenue in the area east of the Dairy Manufactures Building for the Department of Food Technology, the award in each case being to the lowest bidder:

1 The National Science Foundation has made a grant of $15,600 for the extension of the Natural History Building to provide research facilities for the Departments of Zoology and Botany, on the condition that this grant will be matched by the University from nonfederal funds to the extent of at least 50 per cent of the direct costs of the project. The grant and matching funds will provide for construction of an office-laboratory facility for graduate students, in the north courtyard of the Natural History Building.
