BOARD OF TEUSTEES

[September 21

the Medical Center District owned by the Board of Education of the city of Chicago. The Board of Education is interested in disposing of this building, and the University could use it as a Physical Plant Department service building. Agreement on a price has not been reached; and moreover neither the University nor the Medical Center Commission has funds at present for the purchase. The Board of Education is wilting to lease the warehouse to the University at a rental of $6,000 a year with provision in the lease that the rental paid shall apply on the purchase price of the property if it is eventually purchased by the University or the Medical Center Commission. In the meantime, while negotiations as to the purchase price and terms are being conducted, and until funds for the purchase are available, it would be an advantage to the University to have the use of the building for general storage and certain Physical Plant shop operations. Funds are available in the Physical Plant operating budget for payment of the rental. The Director of the Physical Plant, the Acting Vice-President in charge of the Chicago Professional Colleges, and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend, and I concur, that the Board authorize negotiation and execution of a lease with the Board of Education for this warehouse at an annual rental of $6,000 with the provision in the lease that the rentals paid shall apply on the purchase price of the property.

On motion of Mrs. Watkins, this lease, as recommended, was authorized by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Harewood, Mr. Herrick, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Swain, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Wilkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Stratton,

CONTRACT FOR INSTALLATION OF ELECTROSTATIC AIR FILTERS FOR LAUNDRY BUILDING. CHICAGO PROFESSIONAL COLLEGES

(15) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend award of a contract for $8,745 to the Moto Ventilating Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for installation of electrostatic air filters in the ne*v Chicago Professional Colleges Laundry Building at 925 South Damen Avenue, Chicago. These filters will increase the cleanliness of the air, will reduce the labor of cleaning surfaces, and will improve the quality of the work processed. The Laundry was designed to include this installation, but bids on the filters were not taken until it could be determined that sufficient funds are available in the construction budget for the Laundry Building. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Clement, this contract was awarded by the following vote: Aye, Mr, Clement, Mr. Harewood, Mr. Herrick, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Swain, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Wilkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Stratton.
