T h e recommendation for the appointment of Dr. Hewitt has the endorsement of all members of the Department of professorial rank, the Dean of the Graduate College, and the Executive Vice-President and Provost. I recommend approval.

On motion of Mr. Swain, this appointment was approved.

HEADSHIP OF DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY BIOLOGICAL STRUCTURE, URBANA (8) The Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine recommends the appointment of Dr. James E. Lovell, presently on the staff of the Veterinary Research Institute at Iowa State University, as Professor, on indefinite tenure, and Head of the Department of Veterinary Biological Structure at Urbana, for one year beginning September 1, 1967, at an annual salary of $20,500 on a twelve months' service basis. Professor Ray D. Hatch will continue to serve as Acting Head of the Department until September 1. This appointment is recommended by a special search committee, 1 and is supported by the members of the Department of professorial rank. The Dean of the Graduate College and the Executive Vice-President and Provost concur in this recommendation. I recommend approval.

On motion of Mr. Hughes, this appointment was approved.

CHAIRMANSHIP OF DEPARTMENT OF ART, CHICAGO CIRCLE (9) The Dean of the College of Architecture and Art and the Chancellor at Chicago Circle recommend the appointment of Simon D. Steiner, Associate Professor of Art, on indefinite (enure, as Chairman of the Department for two years beginning September 1, 1967. The salary will be determined when the budget for 1967-68 is submitted to the Board for approval. This appointment is to succeed Professor Alfred P. Maurice who has served as Chairman of the Department for two years, and has asked not to be reappointed. This recommendation is submitted after consultation with members of the Department and on nomination of its Executive Committee. The Executive Committee of the College of Architecture and Art, the Executive Vice-President and Provost, and the Dean of the Graduate College endorse this recommendation. I recommend approval.

On motion of Mr. Swain, this appointment was approved.

HEADSHIP OF DEPARTMENT OF ORAL DIAGNOSIS, MEDICAL CENTER (10) The Dean of the College of Dentistry and the Chancellor for the Medical Center recommend the appointment of Dr. Lawrence Cohen as Professor of Oral Diagnosis on indefinite tenure and Head of the Department, beginning September 1, 1967, at an annual salary of $22,000 on a twelve months' service basis. This appointment is to fill the vacancy created when Dr. Arthur Skupa assumed the Associate Deanship of the College of Dentistry in May of 1965. In the meantime, Dr. Donald L. McElroy has been serving and will continue to serve as Acting Head of the Department through August 31, 1967. The nomination for this appointment was initiated by a search committee,2 and all members of the Department of professorial rank have been consulted.

Skupa, Professor of Oral Diagnosis in the College of Dentistry and Associate Dean of the College.
