On motion of Mr. Clement, this appointment was approved.

APPOINTMENTS O F COACHES (9) The Board of Directors of the Athletic Association has approved the recommendations of the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics for the following appointments : JAMES J. VALEK as Head Football Coach at the University of Illinois effective April 1, 1967, at a salary of $17,500 a year. HARVARD F . SCHMIDT as Head Basketball Coach at the University of Illinois effective April 1, 1967, at a salary of $14,500 a year. ELLIS RAINSBERGER as Assistant Football Coach at the University of Illinois effective April 12, 1967, at a salary of $13,000 a year. RICHARD L. CAMPBELL as Assistant Basketball Coach at the University of Illinois effective April 8, 1967, at a salary of $13,000 a year. These recommendations have been announced and the action is now submitted to the Trustees for approval.

On motion of Mr. Pogue, these appointments were approved.

HONORARY DEGREES, URBANA A N D MEDICAL CENTER (10) The University Senates have recommended that honorary degrees be conferred upon the following and on the occasions indicated. JAMES ALFRED PERKINS, President of Cornell University, the degree of Doctor of Laws, to be conferred at the Honors Day Convocation, at Urbana, on May 5, 1967. ANANIAS CHARLES LITTLETON, Professor of Accountancy Emeritus, the degree of Doctor of Laws, to be conferred on May 12, 1967, at a Seminar on International Accounting, a Centennial event of the College of Commerce and Business Administration, Urbana. KATHERINE ELLEN FAVILLE, Nurse, Administrator, and Educator, the degree of Doctor of Science, to be conferred at the Commencement Exercises at the Medical Center on June 9, 1967. THEODORE KENNETH LAWLESS, Dermatologist, the degree of Doctor of Laws, to be conferred at the Commencement Exercises at the Medical Center on June 9, 1967. DAVID E. LILIENTHAL, Business Executive and Author, the degree of Doctor of Public Administration, to be conferred at the Commencement Exercises at Urbana on June 17, 1967. ALLAN SANDAGE, Astronomer at Mount Wilson and Palomar Observatories, the degree of Doctor of Science, to be conferred at the Commencement Exercises at Urbana on June 17, 1967. I concur in the recommendations of the Senates.

On motion of Mr. Swain, these recommendations were approved.
