REQUEST THAT ILLINOIS BUILDING AUTHORITY CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF UNDERGRADUATE LIBRARY, URBANA (11) On August 16, 1966, the Illinois Building Authority received bids on all work for the construction of the Undergraduate Library at the Urbana campus. The lowest bidder is McCarthy-Hathman Construction Company, a joint venture of McCarthy Bros. Construction Company and J. E. Hathman, Inc., doing business as McCarthy-Hathman Construction Company, Ladue, St. Louis County, Missouri, with a low bid of $2,958,862. Six other proposals were received, with bids ranging from $2,974,000 to $3,425,000. T h e lowest bidder is deemed fully qualified and the sponsoring firm of the "joint venture" (McCarthy Bros. Construction Company) has performed satisfactorily under contract with the University in the past. The project is one which the Board of Trustees on September 22, 1965, requested the Illinois Building Authority to provide. The Authority will finance construction and lease the facilities to the University for rental payments for which state appropriations are available. The University will transfer jurisdiction of the land on which the project will be constructed to the Authority. The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend that the Board authorize the transfer of jurisdiction of the site and request the Illinois Building Authority to award a contract for the described work to the lowest bidder and proceed to procure this facility for the use of the University. I concur and recommend adoption of the following resolutions. Resolution Be It, and It Hereby Is, Resolved by The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, a public corporation of the State of Illinois, that the Illinois Building Authority be, and it hereby is, requested to award to the McCarthy-Hathman Construction Company, a joint venture of McCarthy Bros. Construction Company and J. E. Hathman, Inc., doing business as McCarthy-Hathman Construction Company, St. Louis, Missouri, a contract for the total work for the construction of the "L T ndergraduate Library at Urbana-Champaign," for the fixed price of $2,958,862. Be It, and It Hereby Is, Further Resolved by The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, a public corporation of the State of Illinois, that the Comptroller and Secretary of this public corporation be, and they hereby are, authorized to make, execute, acknowledge and deliver, in the name and in behalf of this corporation, such instruments of transfer, conveyance, lease, contract, and other documents as are necessary or appropriate in order to provide for the carrying out of the foregoing project and facility by the Illinois Building Authority. Resolution WHEREAS, The Seventy-fourth General Assembly of the State of Illinois has declared it to be in the public interest that the Illinois Building Authority construct, on behalf of The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, an Undergraduate Library Building at the Champaign-Urbana Campus of the University of Illinois, in Urbana, Illinois; and WHEREAS, for that purpose it will be necessary for the Illinois Building Authority to acquire jurisdiction of the real estate upon which said Addition will be located; and WHEREAS, the site for said Undergraduate Library Building has been determined and The Board of Trustees of the Universiy of Illinois, a public corporation of the State of Illinois with its principal office in Urbana, Illinois, will be requested by the Illinois Building Authority to transfer jurisdiction of said real estate for the construction of said Building; and WHEREAS, at its September 22, 1965 meeting The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois authorized the transfer of jurisdiction to the Illinois Building Authority of the site for said Undergraduate Library Building; Now, Therefore, be it and it hereby is resolved by The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, acting through its Executive Committee, as follows: Section 1.
