court of competent jurisdiction and that the Legal Counsel of the University be, and he is hereby, authorized to proceed accordingly, to institute and prosecute an eminent domain proceeding in the name and on behalf of The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois for the acquisition of said land and the determination of the compensation to be paid by it therefor, and to employ such special legal counsel, appraisers, and others as he may deem necessary or desirable to assist him in the institution and prosecution of said proceeding.

On motion of Mr. Grimes, the foregoing resolution was adopted by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Grimes, Mr. Hahn, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Jones, Mr. Swain, Mr. Williamson; no none; absent, Governor Kerner, Mr. Page, Mr. Pogue, Dr. Weatherly.

ACQUISITION AND EXCHANGE OF PROPERTIES, URBAN A

(38) In order to make available land in the area east of the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts as a site for the proposed construction of the first stage of the Center for Advanced Study (Faculty Center), on which construction should start this fall, the President of the University, with the concurrence of other appropriate administrative officers, requests approval in principle of the following: a. The exchange of certain land now owned by the University for land in this area which is now owned by the Foundation. The following properties now owned by the Foundation in this area are necessary as a site for the proposed Faculty Center: 1001 West Illinois Street, Urbana $ 53 500 00 1003 West Illinois Street, Urbana 40 000 00 1011 West Illinois Street, Urbana 41 350 00 506 South Gregory Place, Urbana 72 000 00 1000-02 West California Avenue, Urbana 68 250 00 1004 West California Avenue, Urbana 40 000 00 1006-08 West California Avenue, Urbana 44 O P 00 O Total $359 100 00 Other land now owned by the University and approximating the value of the above will be exchanged for the above properties and title transferred to the Foundation. b. That officials of the University be authorized to have appraisals made of two other properties in this site, namely, 1009 West Illinois Street, Urbana, and 1010 West California Avenue, Urbana, and to negotiate their purchase within the appraisals received. The estimated cost to acquire these properties is $80,000. Completion of the above will make available the land required as a site for the Faculty Center or the first stage of construction on the Center for Advanced Study. On motion of M r . Hughes, approval in principle was given as requested by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Grimes, Mr. Hahn, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Jones, Mr. Swain, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Governor Kerner, Mr. Page, Mr. Pogue, Dr. Weatherly. On motion of Mr. Williamson, the Board adjourned.
