Urbana-Champaign T h e Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs invited faculty members to submit applications with complete descriptions of the work proposed. After approval by heads of departments and review by the deans of the colleges and their committees, thirty-five applications were submitted. A special committee evaluated the proposals and recommended support for those which the committee believed to be most meritorious and to promise the greatest potential benefits to undergraduate instruction. Based on the review of the proposals, the Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs recommends, with the Chancellor's concurrence, that full-time appointments for two months during the summer of 1968 at current salary rates be authorized for the following faculty members (total of fifteen individuals for twelve projects): Salary Expenses Nicholas Britsky, Professor of A r t $ 3 334 00 Claude A. Pfeffer, Associate Professor of Sanitary Engineering 2 778 00 ($37 529 00) ($22 402 00) $57 322 00 $23 302 00 Through a grant from Standard Oil (Indiana) Foundation, Special Awards of $1,000 each will be made to those individuals whose completed projects are judged to be the most outstanding in terms of probable contribution to undergraduate education. The nominees for these Special Awards will be selected on the basis of final reports submitted following the end of the summer session, and recommendations will be submitted to the Board for approval. T h e Executive Vice-President and Provost endorses these recommendations and further recommends that funds for these awards and associated expenses be assigned from the General Reserve at the respective campuses. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Hughes, these recommendations were approved and the requested assignments of funds were made by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Grimes, Mr. Hahn, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Jones, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Swain, Mr. Williamson; no none; absent, Governor Kerner, Mr. Page, Dr. Weatherly.

1 Without additional salary since presently on year-round service. An amount of $7,579 (the two-month salaries of Messrs. Burger and Sabey) is being transferred to the salary budget of the College of Agriculture to cover replacement of their services.
