Funds for this work are available in an appropriation made by the Board of Trustees on November 13, 1969. Submitted herewith is a schedule of bids received, a copy of which is being filed with the Secretary of the Board for record.

On motion of Mr. Clement, these contracts were awarded by the following vote; Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Grimes, Mr. Hahn, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Jones, Mr. Steger; no, none; absent, Governor Ogilvie, Mr. Page, Mr. Stone, Mr. Swain.

CONTRACT FOR REPAIRS TO ABBOTT POWER PLANT CHIMNEYS, URBANA (13) The President of the University, with the concurrence of appropriate administrative officers, recommends award of a contract in the amount of $19,860 to the Custodis Construction Co., Chicago, for repairing the chimneys at the Abbott Power Plant, Urbana, the award being on the low alternate bid. Funds are available in the current operating budget of the Department of Plant and Services, Urbana.

On motion of Mr. Hahn, this contract was awarded by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Grimes, Mr. Hahn, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Jones, Mr. Steger; no, none; absent, Governor Ogilvie, Mr. Page, Mr. Mr. Stone, Mr. Swain.

CONTRACTS FOR AIR CONDITIONING IN DENTISTRY-MEDICINEPHARMACY BUILDING, MEDICAL CENTER (14) The President of the University, with the concurrence of appropriate administrative officers, recommends the award of the following contracts for air conditioning areas in the Dentistry-Medicine-Pharmacy Building at the Medical Center, for the Departments of Biochemistry, Pathology, and Anatomy, and the Library, the award for heating, refrigeration, and temperature control work being on the low base bid less deductive alternate No. 1, and the awards for the other divisions of work being to the low base bidders. Heating, Refrigeration, and Temperature Control — Davron Engineering Company, Inc., Melrose Park Base Bid $51 633 Less Deductible Alternate No. 1 13 495 $38 138 Plumbing — Peter H. Smith Company, Chicago 1 820 Electrical — Hyre Electric Company, Chicago 8 800 Ventilation — Moto Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning Corportion, Chicago 2 875 $51 633 One bid was received for General Work from Mutual Contracting Company, Chicago, in the amount of $19,400. This bid exceeds the estimated value of the general work by $15,400. Accordingly, it is recommended that the bid for the general work be rejected with the understanding that the general work will be done by University forces at an estimated cost of $4,000. Of a total of twelve bidders on the project, only the three bidders for the ventilation work submitted information to prequalify prior to the date specified in the bid documents as is now required by the Illinois Purchasing Act as amended by the Seventy-sixth General Assembly. The remaining nine bidders, however, furnished the information required to prequalify prior to the opening of bids. It is recommended that the failure to prequalify by the date specified be waived in this instance since this is a new procedure and not yet fully understood by the bidders. Funds for this work are available in appropriations made by the Board on July 23, 1969. Submitted herewith is a schedule of bids received, a copy of which is being filed with the Secretary of the Board for record.
