APPROPRIATIONS FOR NONRECURRING EXPENDITURES (9) The Chancellor, on behalf of the Chicago Circle Committee on Nonrecurring Appropriations, recommends the following appropriations from the Chicago Circle General Reserve: Renovation and remodeling for which funds are assigned to the Physical Plant Department: Remodeling in the Science and Engineering Laboratories for the Computer Center $115 500 Remodeling in University Hall for the Health Service 13 600 Total, Chicago Circle General Reserve $129 100 The Executive Vice President and Provost and the Vice President and Comptroller concur. I recommend approval. O n m o t i o n of M r . S w a i n , t h e s e a p p r o p r i a t i o n s w e r e m a d e b y t h e following vote: Aye, M r . Clement, M r . H u g h e s , M r . S w a i n ; no, n o n e ; absent, none. PURCHASES (10) The President submitted, with his concurrence, a list of purchases recommended by the Directors of Purchases and the Vice President and Comptroller; also purchases authorized by the President. The list was presented in two categories: purchases from appropriated funds (i.e., from state appropriations to the University) and purchases from institutional funds. The latter term designates funds received by the University under contracts with the United States government, contracts with private corporations and other organizations, funds from foundation grants, and grants from corporations and other donors, and University revolving funds authorized by law. The total amounts of these purchases were : From Appropriated Funds Authorized $ 12 200 00 Recommended 187 062 00 Total $199 262 00 From Institutional Funds Authorized $ 99 509 23 Recommended 443 859 07 Total $543 368 30 Grand Total $742 630 30 A complete list of the purchases, with supporting information, including the quotations received, was sent to each member of the Board in advance of the meeting, and a copy is being filed with the Secretary of the Board for record.

On motion of Mr. Clement, the purchases authorized by the President were approved, and the purchases recommended were authorized.

REQUEST TO ILLINOIS BUILDING AUTHORITY TO CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF COLLEGE OF DENTISTRY BUILDING, PHASE I, MEDICAL CENTER (11) On August 14, 1969, the Illinois Building Authority received bids for construction of the College of Dentistry Building, Phase 1, at the Medical Center campus. This project is one which the Board, at its meeting on July 26, 1967, requested the Illinois Building Authority to provide. The plans and specifications comply with the requirements of the Facilities for the Handicapped Act. The low base bid was submitted by M. A. Lombard & Son Co., Alsip, Illinois, in the amount of $8,763,501. Proposals were also received from S. N. Nielsen Company, Gust K. Newberg Construction Co., Corbetta Construction Company of Illinois, Inc., The George Sollitt Construction Company, W. E. O'Neil Construction Co., A. J. Maggio Co., and Leo Michuda & Son Co. There are no irregularities in the bid proposal of the low bidder, who is deemed fully qualified to construct this project.
