This appointment is to succeed Professor Howard S. Maclay who has asked to be relieved of this administrative assignment as of August 31, 1969. The Executive Vice President and Provost, the Chancellor, and .he Dean of the Graduate College support this recommendation. I concur. O n m o t i o n of M r . HEADSHIP OF T H E DEPARTMENT OF PHYSIOLOGY AND BIOPHYSICS, URBANA (7) The Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Urbana, has recommended to the Chancellor the appointment of Dr. William W. Sleator, presently Professor of Physiology and Biophysics at Washington University School of Medicine, as Professor of Physiology and Biophysics on indefinite tenure and Head of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, beginning September 1, 1969, on an academic year service basis, at an annual salary of $26,000. This appointment is to succeed Professor C. Ladd Prosser who has asked to be relieved of his administrative assignment. The nomination of Dr. Sleator was made with the advice of a search committee 1 and supported by the Executive Committees of the College and the School of Life Sciences, the Executive Vice President and Provost, the Chancellor, and the Dean of the Graduate College. HEADSHIP OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY, URBANA

(8) The Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Urbana, has recommended to the Chancellor the appointment of Dr. Morton W . Weir, presently Professor of Psychology and Acting Head of the Department of Psychology, as Professor of Psychology on indefinite tenure and Head of the Department of Psychology beginning September 1, 1969, on an academic year service basis, at an annual salary of $21,000. This appointment is to succeed Dr. Lloyd G. Humphreys who has asked to be relieved of this administrative assignment as of August 31, 1969. Dr. Humphreys was on sabbatical leave of absence during the first semester of 1968-69 and was an Associate in the Center for Advanced Study during the second semester of 1968-69. The nomination of Professor Weir is supported by the Executive Committee of the College and by the members of the Department of Psychology of professorial rank. The Executive Vice President and Provost, the Chancellor, and the Dean of the Graduate College concur. I recommend approval. O n m o t i o n of M r . S w a i n , t h i s r e c o m m e n d a t i o n w a s a p p r o v e d . APPOINTMENTS TO T H E FACULTY (9) The following new appointments to the faculty of the rank of Assistant P r o fessor and above, and involving tenure, have been approved since the previous meeting of the Board of Trustees, Positions in the University are classified in the following categories and are designated in the budget by the symbols indicated: A — indefinite tenure; P — indefinite term appointment for part-time service only; B — two years', D — one year; E'—nine months from the beginning of the academic year; G — special tenure; Q — initial term appointment for Professor or Associate Professor; Y — twelve months' service required instead of two semesters; 1-7 — indicates the number of years of service which will be credited at the end of the contract period toward completion of the probationary period relating to tenure. Figures following a symbol indicate percentage of time if the appointment is on a part-time basis (e.g., D75 means one year on three-fourths time). Chicago Circle 1. BERNARD M. BERLODITZ, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, beginning September 1, 1969 (1), at an annual salary of $12,000.
