Total $42 286 Unless otherwise specified, the stipends provide two months' salary (based on twoninths of the salary rate for the previous academic year). The Vice Chancellor further recommends that funds for these grants be assigned from the salary budget of the campus. The Chancellor at the Chicago Circle campus concurs in these recommendations and they have been endorsed by the Vice President for Academic Development and Coordination. I recommend approval.

(11) The Senate at the Urbana-Champajgn campus has recommended that honorary degrees be conferred on the following persons at the Commencement Exercises on June 9, 1973. KARL A. FOLKERS, chemist, founder and now member of the Institute of Biomedical Research at the University of Texas at Austin— the degree of Doctor of Science.

WILLIAM MAXWELL, editor on the staff of the New Yorker magazine — the de-

gree of Doctor of Letters. THOMAS PARK, ecologist and educator, professor of biology at the University of Chicago — the degree of Doctor of Science. The Chancellor concurs in the recommendations. I recommend approval.
