(7) A report on the possibilities of providing museum space for the Trees and other collections. Mr. Davis made a report of discussions with Mr. Merle J. Trees subsequent to the last Board meeting. President Willard was requested to assure Mr. Trees of the keen interest of the Board in this matter. Research in F o o d s and Nutrition (8) Reports on the present status of and plans for the development of the Research in Foods and Nutrition. President Willard and Dean Rusk commented on this matter. Purchases Authorized (9) A report of the following purchases proposed by the Purchasing Agent and authorized by the Comptroller. 1. F o u r Burroughs calculating machines, for use by field men representing the Department of Agricultural Economics for checking farmers' account books, from the Burroughs Adding Machine Company at their price of $1,064.88. The Burroughs adding machine is especially adapted to this use. 2. Ninety semi-stainless contra angles and 84 straight handpieces, for the Chicago Student Supply Store, from Midwest Dental Manufacturing Company, the lowest bidder, at a price of $1,340. 3. Ten items of precious metals, for dental student course outfits, requested by the Chicago Student Supply Store, from General Refineries in the amount of $2,723.20 and Thomas J. Dee and Company in the amount of $469.68, the lowest bidders on the various items, total awards being $3,192.88. On motion of Mr. Davis, these purchases were approved. Purchases Recommended (10) The Comptroller recommends that the following purchases submitted by the Purchasing Agent be authorized. 1. 5,900 bushels of No. 2 Oats, for Animal Husbandry Feed Storage, from the following: Unit Price Bushels Total Federal North Iowa Grain C o m p a n y . . . $.82 1,000 $ 820 H. M. Corray, Sr 81 1,200 972 Lawrence Collins and A. P. Summers. . .81 700 567 Harry Collins and Walker O'Bryan 81 3,000 2,430 2. 104 items of various supplies and equipment essential to dental student course outfits, awards to be made to the lowest bidders on the various items, in the following amounts: L. D. Caulk Company, $3,473.88, S. S. White Dental Manufacturing Company, $5,178.16—total, $8,652.04. On motion of Mr. Jensen, these purchases were authorized. Gift of Loan Fund ( n ) A report of a gift by Edward C. Heidrich, Jr., of notes totaling $7,529.32, to the Student Loan Fund, on the following conditions: 1. I propose to turn over to the University of Illinois notes, or partially paid notes, in the amount of $7,529.32. Funds collected by the University on these accounts are to be held by the University in trust for the uses and purposes hereinafter described. This is to be known as the Edward C. Heidrich, Jr. Loan Fund. 2. Loans shall be made from this fund for emergency purposes to students enrolled in the University of Illinois and especially to those students who can not qualify as borrowers from the regular University loan funds, but with no restrictions based on the credit standing of the borrower and without requirements as to security, sureties, co-signers or the like.
