PURCHASES AUTHORIZED

(12) A supplementary report of purchases authorized. 1. Fifty tons soybean meal for Dixon Springs Experiment Station to be picked up by the University truck in 10-ton lots a month from Swift and Company, Cairo, Illinois, at their price of $53.10, f.o.b. Cairo, or a total of $2,655. 2. 1425 Illuminating Engineering Society study lamps for use of Army trainees, from General Electric Supply Corporation, at a price of $378 each, or a total of $5,386.50, f.o.b. Urbana. This is the best value and the lowest quotation for this type of lamp. Requests for quotations were sent to seven possible sources, with an alternate on Gooseneck Lamps in case the I.E.S. lamps were not available. This report was received for record.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

At this point, the Board went into executive session to consider further recommendations of the President of the University a n d reports of officers a n d committees of the Board.

PURCHASE OF LAND FOR AIRPORT

(13) A report of progress on the purchase of land for the airport, and a recommendation that the Southwest Quarter (SW*4) of the East 160 acres of the Northeast Quarter (NEJ4) of Section Three (3), Township Eighteen (18) North, Range Eight (8), East of the Third Principal Meridian, Town of Tolono, be purchased from Mr. A. R. Troutman for $14,200. O n motion of M r . Davis, this purchase was authorized. O n motion of M r . Fornof, a n appropriation of $15,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary, w a s made from the General Reserve for this purchase, by the following vote: Aye, M r . Davis, M r . Fornof, M r s . Grigsby, M r . K a r r a k e r , M r . Livingston, M r . McKelvey, Mr. Nickell; no, n o n e ; absent, M r . Green, M r . Jensen, D r . Luken, Dr. Meyer. On motion of Mr. McKelvey, the Secretary was instructed to record the appreciation of the Board for the services of M r . Newton C. Farr in negotiating the contracts for the purchase of land for the airport.
