Treasurer of the University of Illinois Foundation under the direction of its Board of Directors. 16. May serve as Comptroller of University Retirement System under direction of the Retirement Board, on request of that Board. M r . Nickell took his place with the Board during the discussion of this item. T h e following changes were made in the outline (with the consent of the President of the U n i v e r s i t y ) : Business Manager, paragraph N o . 3, change "financial policies" to "business policies"; after paragraph No. 11, insert N o . 1 2 — " m a i n tenance of working relations with state and federal fiscal offices," and renumber present N o . 12 to No. 13. Comptroller, paragraph No. 6, insert " a n d inventory," to read " s u b sidiary accounting and inventory records." It was the opinion of the Board that both the Business Manager and the Comptroller were responsible for the maintenance of proper working relations within their respective fields with state and federal fiscal offices. O n motion of Mr. Davis, this plan of organization and division of responsibilities was approved as revised, subject to reconsideration by the Board at any time.

CLINICAL FACULTY OF THE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE 1943-1944

(5) A recommendation that the appointments listed on pages 543-556 be made to the non-salaried faculty of the College of Medicine for the academic year beginning September 1, 1943; that the President of the University be authorized to make such additional appointments and other changes as are desirable and necessary. The designation "Rush" in a title indicates that the individual was formerly on the faculty of Rush Medical College. Under an agreement entered into by the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois and the Board of Managers of the Presbyterian Hospital the University of Illinois appoints to its nonsalaried faculty certain members of the staff of the Presbyterian Hospital of Chicago and former members of the faculty of Rush Medical College. All appointments are for one year from September I, 1943, unless otherwise indicated. A summary by departments of the number of appointments and the comparative figures for 1942-1943 is also submitted (see page 543). On motion of D r . Meyer, these appointments were made as recommended.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR AND RETIREMENT OF DEAN CHARLES M. THOMPSON

(6) Dean Charles M. Thompson of the College of Commerce and Business Administration has requested that he be retired from active service effective November 1, 1943, or as soon thereafter as may be advisable. Under the Act creating the University Retirement System of Illinois, he is eligible to retire and receive a retirement annuity, having reached the age of 65. With the exception of the one year, 1910-1911, he has been in the service of the University since 1907, a total of 35 years. Since 1919 he has been Dean of the College of Com-
