BOARD OF TRUSTEES

JOHN J. SHEURING, Assistant in Dairy Manufactures, from August I through 31, 1942, and for one year from September I, 1942. RALPH E. SMITH, Fire Station Attendant, from June 7 through August 31, 1042, and for one year from September 1, 1942. PERRY J. MELNICK, Associate in Pathology, from June 13 through August 31, 1942, and for one year from September I, 1942. O n motion of M r . Jensen, these leaves were approved.

RETIREMENT OF JESSE MYERS FOR DISABILITY

(23) A request from Mr. Jesse Myers, plumber in the Physical Plant Department, that he be retired for physical disability effective July 22, 1942. The Director of the Physical Plant Department recommends approval. Mr. Myers was born November 9, 1879, and has been employed permanently and continuously since March 5, 1908. He has been granted the maximum disability leave of absence with full pay, to which he is entitled under the regulations of the Board, and this leave expired July 22. His disability occurred prior to March I, 1942, and he may therefore be retired for disability under the old retirement system. The disability retiring allowance will amount to $814 a year. Mr. Myers has been a participant in the University Retirement System of Illinois since September 1, 1941, and therefore he retains his rights in the system as to death benefits or retirement for causes other than disability. A deduction of 33^2 per cent will be made from his disability allowance and should other benefits become payable they will be paid by the University Retirement System. I recommend approval of this request. O n motion of M r . Wieland, this recommendation was approved.

REAPPROPRIATION OF U N E X P E N D E D BALANCES

(24) A recommendation that the following unexpended balances as of June 30, 1942, be reappropriated for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1942: Atmospheric Control Pressure Chambers $15 000 Dentistry Building Changes 9 760 Cold Laboratory in Research and Educational Hospital 7 000 Power Plant Improvement 6 000 Navy Food Service Equipment 30 000 Total $67 760 O n motion of Mr. Wieland, this appropriation was made as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, M r . Adams, Mr. Cleary, M r . Fornof, M r s . Grigsby, Mr. Jensen, M r . K a r r a k e r , M r . Livingston, Dr. Meyer, M r . W i e l a n d ; no, n o n e ; absent, Mr. Davis, Mr. Green.

PURCHASE OF ORGATRON FOR RADIO STATION

(25) The Committee on Special Appropriations and Non-Recurring Expenditures recommends the assignment of $2,000 for the purchase of an orgatron for the Radio Station, from the allotment for purchase of equipment and other non-recurring expenditures in the budget for the biennium of 1041-1943. On motion of M r . K a r r a k e r , this appropriation was made as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, M r . A d a m s , M r . Cleary, Mr. Fornof, M r s . Grigsby, M r . Jensen, Mr. K a r r a k e r , M r . Livingston, Dr. Meyer, M r . W i e l a n d ; no, n o n e ; absent, M r . Davis, M r . Green.

BEQUEST O F ISABEL BEVIER

(26) The late Isabel Bevier, Professor of Home Economics, Emerita, has bequeathed $5,000 to the University to establish a lecture fund in the Department of Home Economics as described in the following extract from her will: "1. Whereas, I have, since the date and execution of my said will of February 11, 1938, determined to give the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois a certain sum of money to be held by said Board of Trustees for the uses and purposes herinafter designated.
